Hi

So my partner and I are potentially looking at relocating to Worcester next year. Need to start looking at full livery yards around the area. Partner is taking a job quite centrally in Worcester and we have no idea where we’re going to get a house but just thought I’d get feelers out to see what yards are out there.

There are quite a few yards around but I'm not sure how many do full livery (the one I would have recommended has retired and moved). What do you like to do? If you like competing then indoor school Gracelands is near Droitwich and Allens Hill, a competition venue, is near Pershore and Droitwich and Worcester are close to the M5 for travelling. Remember that the River Severn divides the county and there are bridges in Stourport, Holt Heath, Worcester City and Worcester south and Upton upon Severn and that is it.
Broadheath is on the west side of Worcester and there are yard(s) there. Worcestershire is reasonably served for bridlepaths in places and the local bridlepath association has routes and maps if you are interested in that sort of thing.

I know it was a vague request lol.
So full livery really is preferred. When I say full I mean all care no riding required.
Need somewhere with an arena and lights as ride after work.
Good hacking would be preferred over show centres.
We’ve not even looked for a house yet. We’ve had a bit of a look around. Pershore is a nice area that we’ve looked at.

I guess really the argument has come down to this- my partner has been offered a very good job in central Worcester.
My industry does long hours 07.30 -17.30 is standard so if I did DIY it would have to be on the way to/from work or very close to home. If I can’t find a full livery or a DIY yard that I make work then I have to make a decision on whether I go DIY somewhere further away and take a part time/ more flexible job. If that’s the case then the third option would be to buy somewhere where I could have her at home.
But I need to exhaust all full livery options first. So anywhere within 30-45 mins of central Worcester would be ideal but I’m assuming unrealistic.
Hope that makes sense?!

You are moving to a very horsey area and there are lots of yards and competition venues. What is your discipline, how much do you compete and how important is good hacking? I think that is where I'd start. I live between Malvern and Upton Upon Severn but keep my horses at home so I don't know much about the local livery yards but I do know there are quite a few in the area. We are about 30 minutes from central Worcester, close to a lot of competition venues and can get on the motorway easily with hacking on Castlemorton common, the Malverns and also a local TROT ride. Bockleton is about 40 mins away in a lovely area but is a bit more remote. Pershore area has Bredon Hill, which is great for hacking and is also very convenient for venues and the motorway. I think you ought to visit but I think you will be spoiled for choice.

Bockleton is near Tenbury Wells which is way out West and not a great road to travel, though I expect it is a lovely place for a horse to live.

I have thought of a livery yard - Daneswood Dressage near Ombersley, but that is the north of Worcester.
I don't know the Pershore area, but I entirely agree with what Oldie has said. Is there still a feed shop, Equimix, in Pershore? They would have local advertisements. Facebook page Worcestershire Horse Riders.
OP, you need a visit to the area!

It really will depend where in Central Worcester the Op buys a house. Any time spent trying to cross the city to get to a yard will be lengthy. There are so many new build estates going up all around Worcester the traffic is evermore gridlocked.

Hi all.

Thanks for the replies. Really helpful.
We do need to investigate the area a bit more and the move isn’t until May next year which makes it difficult to form a full plan. To make things more difficult, although the main office where my partner will be is in the centre of Worcester, he may be travelling about a bit. So we may rent somewhere first until he’s settled.
If I’m honest I would love to buy somewhere and keep her at home. We’ve already had the offer of a companion for her if needed. But I need to provide a valid case that there isn’t a yard that is in a reasonable distance before partner is convinced.

Good yards get full quickly but as someone else said the Worcestershire Facebook page is good, as are Riding Club (Malvern Hills, Bromsgrove, Worcester and District) FB as people do reply very quickly. A month or so before you think you’re moving pop a request out xxx
