full maxi cob classes.. of hunters :O

Im surprised at how many there are in the maxi classes near me this year. However when you look at the horses is saddening to see so many are hunter types who yes have chunky legs but they look like hunters hogged.. and not decent ones at that!
The ones I have been to watch the first places have been stunning however after that its a mixed bag really. The most recent one the first place was lovely, went nice for the judge and the same for the 3rd placed one, very nice horses! However one other of the placed horses was a hunter with zero top-line and whos head went up every time the judge asked for a transition. Another was so overweight it looked deformed and didn't seem to move properly. As for some of the unplaced ones there was one who was a very nice and true to type coloured however it didn't go great the judge so can understand why it wasn't placed.

Why don't the places in the maxi classes look anything like those in the lw or hw cob classes? you get some lovely horses winning but also some shocking ones doing well.

There was always a fear that maxi cobs would introduce hogged hunters

It's up to the judges to place horses that aren't true to type at the bottom of the pile. If you don't feel the judges are doing their job, then complain. If you think you can without looking like a sore loser

Our cob was showing in a HW class and a spectator next to us had hysterics that the placed animals weren't real cobs and ours wasn't placed. It was a good, shouty, forumworthy rant about how judges don't know what real cobs look like. Mum went up and thanked the woman and we all had a rant about judges.

It's a shame, because it puts people off producing proper cobs and focusing on these silly undersized hunters/hogged hunters. But that seems to be the way

The reason for the increased number of maxi cob entrants is because this year there is a maxi cob class at HOYS so the world and his dog will be out to try and get a ticket!

You will notice a lot of Highlands about too this year as they now have a set amount of tickets specifically for the breed.

Can't coment on trueness to type as I haven't seen a class and I'm a hunter gal myself. The only thing I know about cobs is they are to have the arse of a cook and the head of a lady (at lease I think thats cobs )

Yes, it is cobs, but I've found a "proper" cob is much more than just that!

They're more like dinnertables than other breeds, heavy set horses with a leg on each corner, deep chests and large backsides. They're supposed to be rather short backed too, gypsies love short backed cobs, then have huge stocky necks, but the most delightful faces, which sets them apart from the draft horses who although often pretty, still have an air of "duuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrp" about them!

I love my cobs, I really do, but cob showing classes and the coloured horse obsession were the two worst things to ever happen to cobs! And then the natural cob classes... urgh... the things people consider "well feathered" are enough to make you cry!!!

Hi can anyone tell me if they think my boy could be a Maxi cob please? He's 16.3hh and to me he look's like a proper over grown cob but I haven't watched the classes so dont really know
Also how the heck do I get the photos to show up on here?
