Well, after a good start, today was interesting

Our test yesterday scored a 38.6, which other than the mark for the FW (

) I agreed with after looking at his comments, so thanks for all those that answered my post yesterday!!

Arrived today, Goddy was slightly hyper and was trying to box walk around the lorry in the "oversized" partition space whilst I was studding up. Great. Got on, nice and chilled until we started cantering, and OMG, had NO brakes at all, leaning hard on my left hand and buggering off, not impressed! Jumped a few practise fences from trot, and he was certainly pinging, then put into canter and we were just a bit long and flat. Swapped his bit to the cartwheel, and although marginally better, not much! Went to swap big spurs for little ones, but "helper" had taken them back to lorry thinking was being helpful, so had to ride psycho horse with big spurs!! Anyway, he was naughty, the course was twisty and I had no control, so ended up with 16 jumping pens, and 34 time, as they didnt stop the clock when rebuilding a fence we demolished in the double, so I had time penalties for their fence building! But, forgave Goddy's wildness as nice to feel him so keen and excited to be out...I think!!

Quick change and off XC, there was noone on the course so I got lone commentary all the way round apparently! Goddy was awesome, stuck his head on the floor and just went, so although not the most controlled feeling, a blooming confident run. and he ate everything up no probs. they would have had to be another 6 inches bigger I think for him to have taken any notice today! But came back to me to trot into the water and down a step, so overall a fantastic run.

So, a mixed bag, but generally pleased with him, although back to the drawing board Sjing I think!! Lots and lots of practise needed....but otherwise its a good feeling to be out!! Thanks for reading, and was lovely to catch up with Starbucks and meet Gloster_Image and see the lovely HairyHatMan's horse in action again

Ha, I was .1 out!!!!!!
grin.gif

I think you can safely say that your boy knew EXACTLY what was going on today and therefor was SO up for it and keen to get on. That's great, at least you know he loves his job
grin.gif

Apart from the SJ bit, he sounds like he is finding Intro xc very easy and you'll be upgrading to Pre Novice before you know it!

Big pats for Goddy and you Kat, Well done hun.
wink.gif

Well 2 out of three aint bad!
wink.gif
I wonder if i got time pens SJ too then?? I was quite impressed with the standard - everyone looked really good!!

It's a shame about Godders SJ when he's been improving so much - was it his first time outdoors this year??

Yeah well the Sjing has seemed to be our nemesis, hopefully a less twisty SJing course on better ground (eg our first outing at Stafford!
tongue.gif
) Will amke life easier! BUT 16 jump faults on a slightly wild horse is loads better than this time last year when we were getting the big E on a frozen horse!!

Nah we had a run out as I had no control going into the double and ran out at the second part after demolishing the first part, so had to wait for them to rebuild to go through the double again, hence why had time penalties. Yes was first time outdoors since October, and he has been XCing all week..
smile.gif
Thanks hon

It's totally wrong that they didn't stop the timer.

Did you think SJ was quite up to height then? How big was it supposed to be??

He he, silly monkey but I know it's the grass under his feet that's making his toes twinkle
grin.gif
Once the summer comes, he'll have chilled about it.
wink.gif

yeah it was at height, 95cm, the course builder was measuring this morning, the only ones that werent were the gate and the first fence....

Thats not a bad first run, at least he focused XC, once you have improved the SJ you will be flying, SJ is frankies worst phase too! Well done for the completion and good luck for the next one!

I didn't think they looked that big but I guess they were funny old jumps so they sometimes look a bit smaller, to me anyway. The SJ was a lot harder than the XC though but I guess they had to make something a bit of a challenge. I'm sure with all that space they could have made it a bit more flowing.

At least with BE you always get mega strait forward courses. They aren't great for Badger and I though cos we end up going at speed!!
tongue.gif

how did GI get on??
smile.gif

The fillers were odd, so it was difficult to gauge, only knew cos the builder was about that morning! The course wasnt the greatest, but certainly sorted people out!!
tongue.gif

Hey well done! At our first event last year we got 17 time penalties for going too fast XC and lots of SJ faults and everything including the dressage was, in Bs opinion, to be done at a gallop! It was hilarious! He calmed down for future events though, so here's hoping Goddy does too.

well done, sounds fantastic, and 16 seems low compared to what my last mare used to get; so it could be worse
tongue.gif

sounds like he is enjoying it which is fantastic

[ QUOTE ]

I must admit the jumps were a bit ropey, small wings but "leggy" fillers! Gave an odd illusion And the XC jump by fence 6 didn't help...

[/ QUOTE ]

They were crap jumps weren't they!! I think with all the money EMDG must have made today they should get themselves a new set of show jumps!
tongue.gif

Thanks, that is first time he has managed that amount of pens other than an elim, he is normally careful!! Just forgot that legs bend today I think
tongue.gif

Lol! Well is an improvement to this time last year anyway, amd he ended with clear SJing last year, so hopefully will go the same way quicker this year
tongue.gif

well at least you can see the plus sides and as you say better to be forward going that frozen and you can work on collection and control easily from what you now have, so pleased he went well xc for you i think you'll need to upgrade very soon or he'll find it all too easy!!
smile.gif

well done x

Thanks L
smile.gif
Stilla bit disappointed we havent got a run at Oasby, but just means will have to crack onto Stafford
smile.gif
Just got to get his SJing uopto speed with everything else now...

I think this was a great opportunity for you to get going again, get everything oiled for the season. Sounds like the sjing is still a bit rusty lol and he was obviously very lively.
Great stuff on the xc hon, thats the main thing
smile.gif

Hopefully it will have blown those cobwebs away and he will settle down for the rest of the season.

I got two poles out yesterday and horse was bonkers lol

lol! Bless Snoops. The course wasnt very nice IMO, so pelased we got round tbh!! I have never had to ride him in anything other than a snaffle at comps, so the fact had to swap to a gag speaks volumes, and I still had no control!! Had no probs with making distances though
tongue.gif
Lol!!

yeah gutted for you that you didn't get in, i am so chuffed we managed to get in! i am sure with time he will settle to SJ especially outdoors its all so different to indoors, think Bud will be a bit keen at his first one!
As i said soon he'll want bigger tracks to back him off!!

I was proud of Bud yesterday beat Janette Brakewell all be it BSJA!
smile.gif

Sounds like he was mighty pleased about being out eventing again!! what a fantastic XC run!
grin.gif
me thinks more brakes are needed for SJ!
grin.gif
Perhaps he'll calm down a bit once the season gets properly underway! A nice positive run for both of you! Well done
grin.gif

Yeah hope so, loath to put more in his mouth as we go from everything to nothing, and he still isnt 100% confident Sjing.... The XC run was great though, he didnt look at anything which was nice
tongue.gif
Any news on Hatti?
