Does anyone use a full width breast bar in their trailer? I'm specifically thinking about an IW 506 but in any really, and the reason being it will be nicer to tack up etc inside out of the cold and rain! We do have two ponies but rarely travel them together.

Does anyone do this for this reason, do you switch from full to half and how easy is it to do this on a regular basis?

Yes, I have full length breast and butt bars in my trailer, I only ever carry one with no partition. I have the partition and half bars too if needed. Putting in/taking out the partition is easy enough to do, I do it myself with no help.

My old trailer wasn't an Ifor, but I bought a full width breast and breach bar and loved it. Loved being able to tack up with space to spare. Also felt it was nicer for the horse to stand dozing with space and the top door open.

My partition was heavy, needed 2 people and was awkward. That said, I rarely put it in, so wasn't much of an inconvenience.

I have them in an ifor 511 . Horse was starting to scrabble with partition in.
He now travels herringbone and is fine - great for racking up too

Yes, I do. I can take out the central partition quite easily. Without the partition I can fit in my carriage (so I can take a carriage, or a pony but not both - which is sad!), or I can travel a single pony cross tied, or two ponies with the partition

I have one pony who likes the trailer to herself so I have full length bars for her. The other ponies travel in pairs so I regularly take out and put back in the partition. I can do it on my own if I have to but it’s heavy and awkward so much easier with 2 people. I have a 505 though, it might be different/ easier in a 506.

Yes - have an ifor 511. Mostly have full bars and no partition in as usually only travelling one horse as have another trailer for travelling two in. The partitions slot in and out fine.

Thanks all, this is really helpful! My husband bought me a full bar for Christmas (king of practical presents but this was one I didn't mind!) I had to gingerly mention I might need another to make a pair so he got me another for my birthday but it hasn't arrived yet so I haven't tried the set up. Looking forward to it!

IME once the partition comes out it rarely goes back in again... too handy for moving quad bikes, carriages, furniture, etc. etc.

My ponies long ago got used to travelling together without it. The bonus is that without the partition, you can fit 3 ponies in a Rice Beaufort (four if the Shetland is under their noses in front) :D

I have what I believe is an old Bayhill trailer that in the process of having a spruce up at the garage, rust treatment on roof and around front window and a respray.
It has a partition but Dad altered it way back when i had the trailer so its 3/4 v 1/4 if that makes sense with the 3/4 space for the horse as the horse at the time was scrambling in it and we found that he needed more space for his legs.

In theory I could move the partition all the way across (as I do to front unload) and still have enough room to tack up still but following an accident years ago whilst tacking up in a stable I am reluctant to tack up in small spaces anyway so would never attempt to do this.

I never muck out or tack up any horse whilst in the stable. Ever.

I can’t remember the last time I used a trailer with a partition!!
Everything loads and travels perfectly without partition and it’s so much easier.

I suppose it depends on what you need to carry. When I used to travel in my trailer I had extendable steps as a mounting block and a couple of buckets, a shovel and broom and a water carrier. Not so much room to carry all that lot in a towing vehicle. So that was always carried in the near side of the trailer with fastenings on the wall to prevent anything moving around.
