Do I need to buy two (ie one for the back as well) or can I get away with just the front one????

Obviously wont leave the trailer ramp down if i am not there

You only need one at the front, as obviously a full width breast bar at the back will be quite tricky to "put to the side" because of the length of it if that makes any sense? What you should have at the back though for obvious safety reasons is a rubber covered chain (so it won't pinch your horse or rattle), but you'll still be able to take it off when unloading and put it to one side. Sorry if that makes no sense at all...

you need both front & back as well for safety, if hoss leans his butt on the ramp before you have it fastened after putting it up or when you are taking it down, could be nasty for both of you. Fi x

If you dont have a full widths breech bar you need full width breech straps instead. I found that I could attach the clips on my breeching straps together to make a full width strap but if this is not possible then i would go for the full width bar.

Also worth considering. The rubber on the back door is quite abrasive if the horse constantly has his tail rubbing against it of you only have one bar, it will soon dislodge the tail bandage and make his tail sore.
I have two bars and it works well.

I would def have both, being crushed under the ramp if your horse decides to pull back whilst your putting it up is not a nice thought. For the price they are, your safety is far more valuable.

Yes, thanks for advice and thanks for posting that! Have been thinking of getting single bar myself, had not thought of horse exploding backwards out of trailer as I release the catches... obvious really though!

I always travel mine without a partition and I have the full length bars front and back. I just lean it against the side of the trailer (outside) when I load. It's a lot quicker to put in than the ramp. I also feel it's better them leaning on that than the ramp, as that's what the bar is designed for. They're about £50 each (I have a 510).
