I went up to the yard (my parents house) for the weekend as usual on Friday night, and the girl who helps me out with bits and pieces had been up, pulled Ron's mane and left them in for me.

I went out to get plaiting, feed up etc, and found Ron had no rug on. Perplexed I was... thought maybe she'd forgotten to put his rug back on, unusual tho that would be. But the rug wasn't in the stable, so I thought maybe it had been wet through and she'd put it in the rug shed, but not been able to find his stable rug (as I haven't got it out yet!). But it wasn't there.... stranger and stranger thinks I.

OH spoke to Dad who said he thought Ron had come in without it on, and as he wasn't cold and she knew I was coming up in half an hour Kate had left him without one.

Sure enough, when OH went out with a torch he found rug neatly rolled up in the cornet of the field. the back surcingles have snapped, and the cross surcingles were undone, and the front and neck was still done up.

Looks like Ron has been standing back to the wind and it's literally been blown off over his head!

poor horse, but i'm impressed that a fully clipped hunter wasn't cold when out in a wet and windy field when naked!

Aw bless Ron! It was flipping freezing down here today, can't believe it was much milder up your way? Glad he is ok, obviously made of tough stuff

Mine managed to come in once having ripped his rug... so all he was left wearing was the neck. The rest of the rug was in a pile in the middle of the field!

I went to catch a friends horse last year about this time and found him stood him the field with the rug stood straight out in front of him over his head. The back and cross surcingles had snapped. He just peered out at me from under the rug as if to say *help*

I am ashamed to say I laughed so much I had to take a quick picture before I went and rescued him!

Mine did that 2 nights ago!

I had stable rung on & just clipped her so opped turnout on top for extra warmth.

Next morning I went in & she was just in her stable rug as I looked over the door. Thought "Oh she must of been to warm last night & C had taken it off." Till I went in & there was the other rug on the floor. Front straps & cross surcingles still done up?????
Dotty must of done a headstand to get it off!

Little tinkers!

Least your rug wasn't stolen which I was thinking!

Yep, I found my Arab naked in the field earlier this week. His rug was inside-out in the middle. The only thing that had come undone was one side of the fillet string. He must have put his bum to the wind and then the rest is history.

Yep, my Rhino Combo rug did that last week. It only has a fillet string behind, and I guess a sharp gust must have wrenched it out of position when her tail was blowing in the high winds. After than there would be nowt to hold the back of the rug from blowing forwards. I cringe to think of it happening and am thankful the filly didn't hurt herself when it happened. (Although the rug looksworse for wear from the experience.) It's really put me off using t.o rugs with only a fillet string to keep them in place when it's windy out.
