Fully clipped horse - what rug?

What rug have you got on your fully clipped horse? and what breed?

I've got a ID x TB, but looks more TB, clipped him out last night and abit conscious what rug he should have! x Its about 10 degrees but drops to about 4 overnight? He was stabled last night in a 350g stable rug, seemed warm enough this morning although he was curled up in his straw but i'll put him out tonight, just not sure how to rug him! x Never fully clipped him out before and hes a sensitive soul! x
 
Depends on your horse but i would put a heavy weight on- a 350 should be fine- remember can move around outdoors to keep warm therefore if warm enough in the stable this morning i would think fine overnight. Worst case he bit chilled in morning then you know need to increase rug thickness.
My tb is a wimp has a trace clip out in a full neck 280g rug.
 
Mine is a wimp. A real wimp.

He's also an idxtb he's got a mw stable rug and a heavyweight turnout with neck.

Before people start to call me cruel and accuse me of horsey cruelty, he shivers with one. He gets checked throughout the day, is never hot, and is happy.

He's just the biggest wimp of a horse that I've ever known... :rolleyes:
 
My cob will be getting clipped again on Saturday and will be in a medium weight 180gm combo turnout until he needs something warmer! I know some in heavyweights already so it varies greatly from horse to horse!

ATM he is only in a 75gm combo and plenty warm enough! :)
 
I have a fully clipped warmblood, with a thick straw bed and enough hay shes more than work enough in a fleece and 300gm full neck stable rug - mendium full neck t/o during the day :) Still have plenty of rugs to layer when we get to -10 :(
 
I clipped Mason out again last weekend (full clip apart from legs and head) and he's been out 24/7 in his Fal 40g through rain, sun and frost, and he's toasty warm - but then he is the hottest horse I've ever known.
Remember that it's easier for a turned out horse to warm itself up than cool itself down, so I would go for lighter weight and up it if you find you need to.

My ISH (10deg here) is in 100g today, same at night. It keeps any wind and rain off her and offers some warmth. She has plenty of grass and hay so she is more than capable of maintaining her body temp at what ever is comfortable for her.
 
you lot have got well 'ard horses......

the 2 TB's are not clipped (admittedly no coat to speak of so no natural insulation) and are in 2 x HW full neck turnouts (the boy from oz) and a MW full neck plus a HW full neck (the EPSM boy).

they both have magnetic sheets and full neck fleeces on at night with either a HW or MW full neck stable rug on top.

lord knows what we are going to end up with on the really wimpy one, but he shivers in any less than this currently and you cant just let them be cold, no choice but to keep upping the rugs esp as he isnt a great doer.

EPSM boy needs to be really warm for his mucles to cope with his work load so again no choice.
 
My 5 month pregnant arab is in a medium/heavy turnout during the day (sometimes with hood depending on how cold/windy it is) and same for stable rug (but no neck) at night

She has a full neck underrug added for later in the year ready and waiting.

My fully clipped TB is a heavy weight with neck during the day and medium/heavy stable rug (no neck) but with thin full neck under-rug underneath ...

Both happy children at the moment and looking better than they ever have :D
