FULMER BIT

Anyone use these? Ive just invested in happy mouth fulmer for mine, do i need keepers? It looks like this would alter the natural way the bit fits and cause a bit of pressure thats all.....Never used one before!

I use a Happy Mouth Fulmer sometimes, I use the keepers as it saves the spikey bits getting caught up in my drop noseband.

You're right. You do get a slightly different action with the keepers on. With keepers the bit is 'suspended' more in the mouth. I don't know what mouth piece you have though as it makes a bit of difference but basically you'll get less pressure on the tongue if used with keepers.

Using it without means you'll just get what you would get with an ordinary egbutt/loose ring (depending again on what you've got)

Yes you do need to use it without the keepers.

They stop the bit from twisting and jabbing the pony in side of the nose..

I use the keepers because nutter tb likes something still in his mouth rather than a loose ring, suppose it depends on the horse though.

Thanks guys; ill put keepers on then, i figured there must be a good reason for them!
