Well me and my boy are off on our first fun ride tomorrow, in fact its our first outing ever! Im just pondering on whether to maybe tackle the odd xc jump or two  I've had my lad for a year now and we're very much happy hackers and havent actually jumped together at all. Prior to me having him he was pretty much left in a field unridden for the best part of 3 years but I do know his previous owner did a bit of jumping with him. As the yard Im on doesnt really have the facilities to initiate jumping im just wondering whether I should take the opportunity to try and get him over a couple of jumps?? What do you guys think?? All advice greatfully received :D

Decide when you get there. This is how I felt when I first started taking my mare on fun rides, but they had some nice little jumps and my friend encouraged me to pop her over them. So I did and it was good fun! There is usually a photographer around too, so nice to get a photo as a momento.

Have fun, and let us know how you get on. :)

Thanks guys :)

The fun ride is at Bissell Wood Equestrian Centre, Worcestershire. I've heard great things about the fun rides they organise so Im hoping its going to be a fun day out but as with all things horse related you never quite know how these things are going to pan out until you try them! I was a little worried I might be asking too much of him as its a new experience for us together, he did do some pleasure rides with a previous owner but as I say he pretty much lay dormant with his last owner and didnt do either pleasure rides or jumping! I was also worried he may have actually forgotten how to jump and would slam the ankers on before take off or run out :( hopefully that wont be the case and he'll happily go over a couple of small ones :D

Thought it might be.............I am a seasoned supporter!!

You will have an amazing time, near the water splash ( usually where the photographer stands ) there are some very special little jumps, about 10 of them and all about 2'3" watch out for the sign!!

Otherwise lots of smallish fences on the main course with lots of cantering through the wood ( usually great going and never hard )

I say jump! My chunk of a pony is not the most athletically built animal when it comes to jumping and if he is jumped in the school, his motivation is just to half heartedly throw himself over in any style thats easiest! Fun rides are the one time I know he will pop over jumps with some grace:rolleyes: I'm quite selective with the jumps unlike the masses of people that fly over every single jump on the graceful, taleneted steeds, and pick ones I'm 95% sure he can do with ease and that don't look like they are gonna eat him! The amount of praise he got for doing a line of 4 jumps including some monster metal barrels he would never have jumped at home is all part of the fun of it!
