For those of you not into shooting and gundogs, just to point out that it is a cardinal sin for a dog to take a bird from another dog........
So picture this - guns standing in a line in the field with an elderly picker up in front, in between is a small river and me standing in the field behind that.
During the drive I saw a pheasant fall into the river so immediately sent my labrador (a very good swimmer) but he swam straight across the river, onto the bank, ran across the front field, up to elderly picker upper's dog and took a bird straight out of its mouth despite my whistling and calling.
Felling terribly guilty I decided that at the end of the drive I would apologise to elderly man for my dog's disgraceful behaviour. So when I went up to him he immediately said "did you see that, Robin's dog (not me someone completely different) took a bird from my dog!)
So what did I say...............
"did he really"!!!!
Oh well all black labs look the same from a distance!
