Hi all,
I'm new to h&h forums and would really appreciate some help...

I have recently bought a big boned, hairy mare to enjoy following my 2 yr break from horses.(previously rode tb's) She has the most unusual gait, one which I have never experienced b4. Its as I would imagine it to be like if I was riding a camel!! It's a lolloping fast walk and she doesn't do it all the time...

Anyone else experienced this 'funny walk'?? Is it simply because I've always ridden the tb's or crosses of and its her breeding (Id x gypsy cob)

Thanks for reading.. :D

Is she pacing? I find it hard to believe with a heavier horse, but you never know.

The yard owner told me she was pacing! I didn't really believe as she's such a heavy mare. I'll try my best to upload a vid, at the least some pics of her...

Thanks for your interest... another horsey chum mentioned 'singlefoot' never heard of that either......

True what they say, I'm learning something new everyday!!

Could the mare be part bred with a Standardbred which would explain the gaiting? I find single footing is a LOT more comfortable than pacing as it is more of a swinging walk than a rocking from side to side trot which is what pacing feels like to me.

Racking / single footing:

Pacing: Lateral (disregard anything but the way the legs move)

What Wiki has to say about gaited horses, pacing, ambling, single footing etc, etc:
