Does your horse have any funny mannerisms? Orkan sighs very loudly when I take too long doing up his rug or mucking out
grin.gif

Everytime he is about to piddle off on the lunge he turns a little, looks at me, curls his lip then goes off on one.

I don't think I've ever had a horse with such character.

Lets hear about what your horses with ''character'' are like
smile.gif

Vinnie is generally very very bold with everything he does and is really scared of very little, but he has so much white in his eye that when you give him into trouble he really looks soooo scared eg today he was pawing ground continually so i turned and just pointed at him and he instantly had this look of absolute fear because of the white in his eyes even though you know he is a bold little sh1t! its just so funny cracks me up

hmmm character...is that what you call it
smile.gif

The way he nibbles my hat when i'm doing his boots up, and the stroppy faces he pulls when you look at him, but then the cute face he pulls when you walk away going "I didn't mean it!!"

ahhh in sappy mood now

my horse nods his head when he's getting impatient with something, putting on turnout rugs before going to the field, waiting for tea and (not so good!) wen we get pulled in for line ups at shows!! haha.
Also if he sniffs a treat in your pocket he will either try and unzip it or hold a front leg up like a dog holding its paw! very funny

lol

Darcy stands in the middle of the field, ripping his own rug

Why. He's been put in a field so that his rugs aren't ripped by anyone, and yet he's now doing it himself..

My horse is just a walking mannerism! He grabs zips/ pockets/ ponytails and pulls them for attention, he's pulled into his stable using my hood, he smiles if you croon at him enough, and when he's confused he cocks his head to one side and and snorts before smiling.

My sister's horse doesn't have any particular mannersims, but his face is so expressive- somehow you can just see every emotion he ever experiences written plain to see. He's so gorgeous, and I never knew a plain face with normal brown eyes and normal brown ears could say so much!

Lucy is full of this so called character you speak of.
She always whickers at me whenever she sees me and if shes in and she runs out of hay she whinnies as loud as she can till i get her some more. She will knock all the rugs off the stable wall when she wants to be put out. To get my attention she will pull on my cloths till i stroke her and if i just stand there ignoring her she will grab my hair and pull on it. The list goes on for Lucy.
Rupert the 2 year old colt at work will through his feed bucket out his stable when he has fin. He gets very stroppy if you don't give him any attention and makes a huge fuss and looks realy wild till you go in the box with him then he just wants a cuddle and is the sweetest horse you could know.
Oh and then theres Herbie he's full of urm character. Ok he's just a git but i love him anyway and he is getting better each day

Scooby is a snog-monster - if he wants treats, or cuddles, he will smooch my face with his big slobbery lips! He's the dribbliest horse I've ever met, more like a dog than a pony.
tongue.gif
He also likes to nuzzle his nose into my neck for a cuddle, then he'll grab my coat zipper and start tugging it up and down. He has a bad habit of rubbing his head against people for a scratch (he's too big to do that, he keeps nearly knocking me over!) so in an attempt to stop him, I grab his nose and hold his head still and he'll just lean into me and stand like that for ages. Daft animal.

My mare had a a habbit of dropping her head down a little, look up at you head on with doe eyes. She would wiggle her top lip slightly at the same time, the more excited she was the faster it went. Really hard to explain but it would melt anyone. My oh was a sucker for it.
smirk.gif

Wish i had filmed it before she went as it was a very cute and unusual
frown.gif

The funny thing is in the years i had her i only heard her whinny 3 times, she wasnt vocal but made up for it by being very expresionate with her eyes, ears and nose. You could always tell what she was thinking
smile.gif

Beanie always gives me a 'GET ON WITH IT WOMAN' nudge.
She shoves her haynet so hard it spins.
When she is in her box, when everyting is quiet, she 'baps'her lips together making a funny kind of noise. She hasbeen known to do this for up to an hour.
Oh, and she neighs like a dinosaur!

Mine pulls the funniest faces when you pull on his rug to straighten it... as if to say "f*** off!!"..... but he never bites or anything just looks round at you with his ears flat back hahaha

and hes not scared of anything, at all, apart from after working him if you give him a long rein and pat him, he poos his pants and jumps out of his skin when your hand touches him (hes never been beaten or anything - its just hes not expecting it)! Bless him. Has loads of other funny little things as well like grooming you when you brush him etc, hes such a soppy boy!

Bentley picks up his feed bucket and throws it over the door when he is finished with it
grin.gif
I was worried the new yard might think it is terribly bad mannered but they all seem to adore him already so I guess they understand he is a "special case"

If you give Boo a mint he sticks his tongue out and sucks it for ages.
He also puts his head on your shoulder when you're pulling his mane. I thought this was really sweet until I worked out that he was actually doing it so I couldn't pull his mane.
He also likes to drink out of the hose when you wash him - again I thought it was sweet until I realised that he was just trying to stop me getting him wet!

My horse has the funniest I have ever seen - when you stroke his head he puts his tongue out, holds it between his teeth and makes you grab it and pull it before putting it away
laugh.gif

Both my girls whicker when they see dinner arriving
tongue.gif

Lady's lips start doing this weird nibbly thing if you scratch her neck in the right place
tongue.gif
Somehow she also manages to pick up her treat ball and put it in her water, I've not seen her do it yet, so not quite sure how she manages

Candy has bags of character. He throws his feed bucket too just to gain attention, undoes zips, the most embarrassing of which was the farriers apron while he was being shod, unties any horse near enough for him to reach, picks up the muck scoop while his field is being poo picked and runs off with it and then drops it turns around and will go and empty your wheelbarrow while you are retrieving it,loves to take the mick by dragging people around but yet will walk on a loose rein for me and takes great delight in spooking at the most peculiar objects and will act like a bombproof old man at the things you would expect him to react to. His most recent favourite spook is at the road markings like stop lines which are bound to eat him and he will refuse to cross them until he decides they are safe.

My mare grunts really loud when she is having a poo, and quite often puts her face up to me sideways on and looks at me really intensely with one eye.

My daughters gelding is a real character, zips, hats, brushes, feed buckets are all fair game for him to nibble/pull/chuck out of his stable. He also likes to drag his rugs down of the door/side of the stable to trample and wee on.

Danny throws buckets around, and just about anything else he can find... while we were talking to the saddle fitter, he unscrewed the lids to the water containers and knocked them over on the yard...
smirk.gif

He also does his best to 'help' fasten rugs, boots etc. And thinks that travel boots belong at the TOP of his legs xD Walked away for 5mins the first time I put them on him, came back and he'd pulled both front ones right up!
tongue.gif

He also has the cute look down to a fine art, which never fails to get him food!
I could go on....

My horse Digli nods his head up and down and slaps his lips together - hard to descride really but very funny. He also likes to hold on to a piece of clothing with his teeth when he is at all nervous, not like he is nipping he just holds on like a comfort thing. He also likes to bury his nose into the base of your neck when you are leading his which get very annoying as I worry he will jump on me. On the whole he is a bit of a weird one but very entertaining :-)

My hubbys mare Bramble turns her bum on you for a scratch, if you stop she backs into you! She is a shire x dutch so if we forget to warn people they sometimes get a bit worried.
My new baby Nico grooms me when i brush him.
Our old horse Jimmy always turns his bucket upside down when he has finnished his feed, something he coppied of my pony years ago.

My horse cocks his head to one side and does a kissy face for treats. He also is constantly doing carrot stretches in the hope of treats. If I bend to brush his leg or do up a rug he immediately bows with his head between his legs. Last night I was trying to do a bit of shiatsu massage from a book but he kept thinking (or hoping)I was asking him to do a carrot stretch. It was quite funny at one point as he was doing a stretch to one side and lifting his hind leg at the same time - I think he got confused
grin.gif
When he sees the physio arrive on the yard he immediately sticks his head between his legs and waits for ages for a treat to appear!
laugh.gif

Mine doesn't do much, but he snorts at absolutely everything, should of heard him when I got changed for hunting in front of his stable, he was horrified. Not very flattering! He also licks your back if you are in reaching distance when you put half chaps on, oh and he likes nuzzling mens beards. Strange horsey!

Zoom does everything at a million miles an hour (as the name kinda implies!!).

She comes galloping over for dinner, and then goes galloping off again. Sometimes I'll be watching her in the field and she'll be grazing and suddenly canter off.......to the water trough. Then canter back to where she was grazing
smile.gif
She is ALWAYS smiling with her pretty little face.

Monty was SUCH a character. He was a tall fella, nearly 17hh so would always put his head down to have his headcollar put on as a matter of routine. Unfortunately, I am 6foot so he would end up putting it too low. When he was kept on his own (when I was a sharer) he used to LOVE playing catch with my OH. The two of them would bomb round the paddock taking turns to chase eachother. My heart would be in my mouth watching my 17hh boy chase my little OH at canter!!

At my previous yard mine and the neighbouring stable had metal rug rails. My horse struck up a duet in the mornings with his neighbour - he'd run his feed bowl up and down the rail whilst his buddy would smack his lips on his rail - they got it down to a fine art!!

Also, mine loves to try and pick you up by your waistband - found this was even more fun when he discovered girls wearing thongs
blush.gif
- not great for them but he thought it was fab! (Perhaps he was a naughty schoolboy in a past life and was one of the bra-strap pinging brigade!)
