I've just been reading a post about horses bolting and it reminded me of this!
My old mare was in foal to blade, about 8 months gone, i get a phone call one day to say she'd gone from the field. I went up in a panic with the whole family to do a search of the village, it isnt a big place so didnt think it would be so hard! 3 workmen were putting a path down in a garden so i went over and asked if they'd seen a horse anywhere cause i'd lost one. They looked at me a bit mad then said no, must have thought i'd meant a dog!! anyway, in the meantime my dad finds her in someones back garden so we go to fetch her. Took her back to the field and patched up the tiny bit of fencing where we thought she'd got through even though it didnt look like she'd been through there. We loosed her back in the field and were just being smug about her not getting out again when the bugger cantered past us and jumped the 5 foot hedge onto the road!! no idea why, she was a bit of a nutter though!!! I legged it after her through the high street she was getting further away and i was thinking bugger, she's a gonner, anyway, a lorry driver spotted her coming towards him and pulls accross the road so she couldnt get through. i slowed to a walk cause i was knackered and tried to casually walk past the workmen from before. I turned and looked at them when i got to them and there face was a picture!! dont think they could actually believe there eyes, a horse as fat as a pig galloping along the road with me in hot persuit!! they just started laughing, when i got hold of her and was leading her back i told them it was ok now, i'd found my horse!! they looked absolutely gobsmacked!! bet they thought they were seeing things!!
its over 5 years since then and everytime i drive through that village i laugh to myself!! sadly she died of a heart attack when blade was 10 months old but the memories of her will keep me happy forever!!
