my mum has got a section geldind who is at the cheshire show today for his first county level ridden m&m class
she ahs a 17 year old girl riding him and rides him 3 days a week at home, i school him the rest of the time (i would show him but im 6ft so would look a bit daft )!!
the girl doesnt have to pay a thing towards entry fees or any transport and we even transport her pony for free in return for her riding !
shes turned up at cheshire show today and decided she doesnt want to do the class now even tho my mum has paid in advance (and we all know county level entry fees arent cheap) ! cos shes not confident enough at county level yet shes taking her own pony in the wh class !
ive just had right go at her on the phone as im completely furious !
do you think im being unreasonable by having a go at her ? nad what i the best way to advetise for a jockey ?

I don't know about advertising for a jockey, but that sounds so irritating! How annoying of her to pull out at the last minute, she could have let you know before you paid.

it is irritating and not the first time shes let my mum down.. and the fact that shes the biggest spoilt brat to go with it is even more irritatiing ! our driver has even refused to take her in the past cos of her attitude !

I'm not surprised you are fuming - what an obnoxious baggage! Can you not charge her diesel money for transporting her horse but not riding your horse as per your agreement?

I would be furious too. Is it worth contacting your local Pony Club branch for a rider. Or alternatively a local riding school, there may be young riders there who cannot afford their own pony but are competent riders and would jump at the chance.

well its not really my choice (and my mum is far to soft on people)
if it was upto me i would not take her anywhere ! and ive told my mum to take the ride of her and she doesnt deserve it and theres kids out there who would bite her hand of 4 th chance to compete a pony without the responsibility of looking after it !

I'm not surprised your fuming, I would be tempted to leave her and her pony there and let her find her own transport home! why wait around for her class if she isn't going to take your mums horse into a class a completely wasted journey for your mum and the driver. I agree with MurphysMinder look for another rider that will enjoy the experience.

i think i may put up an advert in our local tack shop and see what response it get .. i just hate people letting my mum down especially wen it means her losing money !

thanks everyone, sorry for shouting it just infuriates me, 2 think how i struggled as a kid to get to places and shes got it handed on a plate !

Some horsey websites have wanted ads where you can advertise for a rider - I'm sure someone will snap your hand off at the chance.

I would find another rider. Is she lacking confidence with your horse or the class?

If the horse, then she should not have agreed to do the class and it may be that he needs more work. It could be that she trusts her pony more, hence doing the WH with him.

I would in future ask her to find her own transport - one thing to say she does not want to ride in a class, but another to let you have all the expense and let you down at the last minute.

no she is fine with riding the pony as hes an angel its the class she is bothered about...and my mum is lke "well shes not used to this level" but to me that is no excuse, if you are serious about competing you will do it at any level, you should put the same effort in is as you would at a local show ..
i know people get stage fright sometimes but for her to be fine to ride her own pony and not my mum to me sounds like shes just taking the mickey ! and she is a spoilt brat !

I would be so peeeeeeeeeed off, your Mum must be a saint to put up with her!

As you're off The Wirral, what about trying Ann Davey at The Foxes, see if she knows of any well mannered children fully capable of a chance of a lifetime? You could also try your local Pony Club secretary and the vets, they might be able to help.

Are you getting soaked over there, one minute it's lashing down here, the next it's boiling hot and we're not that far from there?!

Thats what I was just thinkng, I had a similar thing when we took one of our horses to a show over an hour away and the girl riding decided she didn't have time to ride she had a bbq to get too, she couldn't understand why I wasn't happy and threw a fit the next week when she found out the horse had competed with someone else at a different show whilst she was at work, she didn't ride him again for over a year.

yes i am actually going to foxes on sunday to watch the show jumping so i may speak to her.. and i dont think my mum has the patience i think shes just worried she wont get a jockey but like everyone has said there are kids that would jump at the chance !
not only has my mum wasted entry fees today its the fuel and the time off work aswell ... im furious

it hasnt rained over here yet today ! im stuck in work and you can guarantee it will rain as soon as i leave for the yard and want to ride!

we are on the wirral, im going to put an advert up in the tack shop i think and see what response i get ...
i could understand if she was only young and got stage fright but shes 17 and the fact that she has everyone running round after her and my mum was up at 4.30 this morning to get the pony ready for her and all she had to do was get on him in the class ... she just infuriates me ! she just wants a machine to take her out winning rather than a pony !

I would present her with a bill for transportation of her horse because at the end of the day she has used use as a transport service because she was riding your horse in exchange for her transport but she hasn't fulfilled her side.
