Has anyone ever been here (competiting or schooling) am considering taking my 6yo here on Sunday (they do a just turn up and pay thing) for his 1st introduction to xc. As all the bsja is miles away.

Wondering if it gets busy on a sunday? Hes not great with horses charging round him.

What are jumps like? Is there plenty for him to have a go at? Can imagine if he likes the natural fences we'll want to jump up to about 3foot (i'm not very brave at solid fences)

Thanks in advance

There are plenty of jumps there but beware of deer!

I shouldnt think it will be too busy as there is a riding club thing on this weekend for that sort of area at great westwood

I take my boy up there sometimes just for a ride if I'm bored. There is quite a big range of fences, and I have to say I don't think I've ever seen anyone else there at the same time as me.

ETA- oh yes, we've seen plenty of deer!!

It's a nice enough course, although don't know how wet it'll be this weekend. And as H_J said, a lot of people are going to be at Great Westwood (the lucky things are going to see me fence judging

)

There's quite a variety to jump, although a lot of people find the water options a bit lacking there (don't know if they've added anymore).

yes, i agree ground could be the issue. just trying to find options then i will decide on the day what to do. Just so fed & bored as not been out since end of feb

We went up to the UK Chasers at Thetford Forest this week and it was deserted... Its normally great going as its sandy forest floors but it had some majorly sticky patches and studs were a must.

(ps.... I complained to UK chasers about this course last August as a lot of fences were totally unsafe and parts of the course roped off...and despite promises its still not worth £20 a round...grrrrr !!!)

I liked Furness Farm, although its a while since I was there. There was a bank complex at the end, and it was covered with gravel chippings to make it non-slip, but on the second time at it (having popped up and down neatly first time), my horse tripped and opened his knees on it

There is also an ex-uk chasers course at Broxted, a few minutes from Stansted airport, which is also nice, if you want the info, and can't find it else where, ask me and I'll look it out for you.
