Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to breeding. I have just bought a broodmare who is by Furst Heinrich. Would anyone like to give me an opinion on this stallion , just general thoughts (I know he's no longer with us!) and also on any of his progeny? Many thanks

Hi

My friend who breeds dressage horses has 2 mares by him, and they are both lovely.

He seems to have a few nice youngsters on the ground.

I think he's a nice sort.

Really super stallion, a real shame he died so young. Very nice horse to have in a sporthorse pedigree although his daughters wouldn't have had many years to prove themselves as broodmares yet, so cant comment on his prowess a a broodmare sire

ive got a two year old colt by him, he has such a wonderful temperament and big loose movement, sadly he is for sale as he has grown too big for me.

Thanks for your comments. She's in foal to Showmaker, am I right in thinking, Volatis, that you have used him as a stallion?

Yes I have used Showmaker, really pleased with the foal we got and if he keeps developing as he should, I think we'll breed back to him (and do the filly dance).
Interestingly, knowing what foals my mare has thrown in the past to different stallions, this colt isn't as stamped by his sire in the ways I expected. He's actually a very leggy modern type, but does have the uphill build I was looking for. I think I was expecting a more powerful heavier stamp of foal, but I am very pleased with this one, so no complaints!

The stunning chestnut mare that was reserve supreme[joint] at the Futurity Championship was by FH . If you look at the HH a week or two back you will see what the German judge from the BWB thought of her too!!!
As for Showmaker as much as i like him as a Sport horse i am not overly impressed by his hind leg conformation, it will be interesting to seehow 'strong' a stallion he is in terms of type and temperament stamp.
Think you'll be ok V as your mares are such nice quality.
Must say was very impressed with the quality of the Garuda K offspring i have seen, and yet i was'nt blown away by him.His young stock seem , in the ones i have seen to have really strong correct limbs.
Thats breeding for you!!!!! but saying that Garuda K's bloodline is wonderful and powerful so i expect he is passing the quality on from there.

And Garuda's sire does have exceptional strength and bone for a Trakehner - in fact he's not really 'typey' enough, but Garuda has good 'type' but clearly passes on that bit of bone for his sire (and from his sire's dam line)

Fürst Heinrich has indeed produced some very good foals. We had a very good stallion here in Sweden:

His foals look super, but unfortunately First Wish was a "roarer" (not sure if it's the right word?) so he was taken out of breeding and gelded. A very, very good stallion though. Was ridden by Jan Brink but I think his owner (also a GP rider) has him now as he's not in breeding any more.

Best wishes,
