I didn't seem to get much of a response to my initial query, so hoping people will be able to help me if I pose the question a little differently!

If you were/are looking for a youngster (3 years old) which web sites would you visit? Are there any specific web sites designed for people selling youngsters? Are there any you find have more on than others?

Or, if you have sold a youngster, where did you find you had more success in queries and offers? Does the level of experience the horse has affect where you advertise e.g. not backed, lightly backed or fully ridden away?

Replies very welcome as help and guidance very much needed!!

Digestive biscuits and Yorkshire Tea for those with replies :D

Depends on what sort of youngster you are looking for and what price range. There is horsemart, horsequest, horse and hound and the Ascot Sales coming up,Fayre oaks (welsh) Hay on wye( the meat market) several others

I am more familiar with Horsemart and H&H but am unsure if they are the way to go for a youngster. I can't go to a sales, I don't have time or the transport.

I don't want to say too much in terms of describing him as no doubt someone will report me for advertising (!) but to give you an idea of him in case his "type" fits a web site, he is an ID x warmblood currently standing at 16.2, 3 years old. Price...I know what I'd like to get for him but being realistic somewhere between £1k to £1700. Obviously the higher the better but in this market...

Anyway; does what I've said alter thoughts on websites??

Thanks for your reply :)

I have to say I always look on Horsemart and Horsedeals when looking for horses as easy to navigate and to specify what you're looking for, plus people can put more pics and text on the adverts along with videos etc. I don't like how HM has changed with regards to viewing pics but that's by the by, you can still put more on than most sites. I would stick to them and H&H if necessary (but that's more expensive). Ho rse Select and Horse Quest I find too annoying to navigate so can never be bothered with them.

I have to say if I were looking around for a quality youngster to bring on and spend the time on I would ask around friends and find a local stud. Luckily we have some great friends whos stud always has a fab selection of youngsters at different degrees of training to sell and the plus side is you can see the parents.

I cant do sales either. We have one tomorrow at Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. Soul destroying, poor little confused and frightened ponies in a pen waiting for the meat man. Sorry but not for me.

kirkby stephen is shite....and should be shut down

OP ...contact either janetgeorge or henryhorn on here...they both have SERIOUSLY nice youngsters

pastie2...you should PM cuffey on here....she could do with some help at KS re welfare

Hi, I made a flyer with a good photo and a discription of my horse with price and mobile number and then also put my number on tear off strips on the bottom so people didn't have to worry about finding a pen?!!?
I put it up in loads of feed places and saddlers in the area, I gave one to my farrier and also posted it out to a few yards in the area. I had about 6 calls about him Just from the ad and he was 14 months old so not even close to being broken in!!!
I also used sites like Preloved, Horsemart, Free Ads, Cheshire Horse, Loot, Friday Ads, Saddle Up and Equi Search.
Try phoning around a few yards and see if anyone is looking for something, try a few dealers and see if they will take him or quickest but I agree horrible are the sales.
Depends on how quick you need to sell and how much for.
Hate to day it but wrong time of year to sell no matter what their age or experience.

cuffey is a brilliant lady...she does a lot for welfare at markets up north...

i cant do as far north as cuffey, and i know she could do with some help

OK NP, I shall try and find her and PM her tonight. I am more than happy to go to the sale if I can do something to help and not as a spectator.

Thanks for all the replies, most useful.

nativeponies - why should I ask them about their seriously nice youngsters? I want to SELL my youngster, not buy another one!!! I wanted to know where people looking to buy youngsters would look so I can place my adverts in the best places!!

I haven't got a problem with people going to sales for buying etc but it is not a route I wish to go down.

Good ideas re the tabs on the bottom of the advert if in a tack store etc.

TBH I would just advertise on the most popular websites, Horsemart, H&H, Horsequest, local tack shops etc. Unless it is of particular breeding then maybe a breed website?

If you are looking for particular websites to sell your youngster, the websites may not get many visitors and the most popular websites would be better.

Good thinking. Thanks very much! Will be getting this sorted tonight :)

I think those posts were from posters who like me thought you were looking for a nice youngster as the title suggests. In which case both of their advice is excellant, don't assume all readers know what you know.

Horsequest certainly has some of the more up market youngsters and that is where I found my horse from however I always look on horsemart as well although you do have to separate the wood from the cheese.

After having put, "further to my last post" which was posted a short time before this one, I had thought people who have looked to see what it was before posting.

I could have been clearer in this post, so apologies :)

Sorry but like lacchern??(sorry if I spelt it wrong) said I also thought you were looking for a youngster, not trying to sell!! and no I hadn't looked at your 1st post. If it's as good as you say put it a good quailty sale, if you cann't sell private.
