Some of you may know, i am starting to conquer my fears with riding. And reading some of the replies on DS's thread about her sister, i am not the only one out there with confidence issues, there are a lot of us, and a lot are adults with plenty of years riding under our belts. (or jody waistbands :D)

So to the question.

If you had confidence issue's, and did'nt have a sister or friend to help you, would you pay someone to come out and help? Someone who would be happy to either walk out with you , or ride out, or just talk you through your fears, someone who is not an instructer/teacher, so would'nt be giving lessons.
Or would you feel someone like that would be preying on your fears to make a fast buck.
I feel (maybe wrongly) that i could help people, i have been there and i understand and want to help, but i could'nt do it for free, as it would be time consuming, and i have a lot of mouths to feed. :D
Your thoughts, please. :)

I think the answer is yes, I have paid an instructor to ride out with me and give instruction as we ride as do others on the yard. Normally I ride out with a friend or my daughter but she is off to uni so with two to exercise and being much more confident in company, I will be looking for more riding buddies but I need to trust both them & their horse to be sensible & considerate (having hacked out with some nightmares in the past!).

I pay an instructor, but I personally would want somebody qualified as a trainer. That's not to say there isn't a market out there, it's just me.

I suppose there would be more confidence in an instructer, as apposed to some random person with no qualifications, advertising to help with riding issues.

I went to a hypnothearapist, back to normal now after a nightmare TB I had last year. Ridden TBs all my life, she scared the ***** out of me. I have another quirkey TB and was always thinking he might do the same thing as the previous mare. No problems now, we get on like a house on fire. I cant recommend hypnothearapy enough.

wow sounds good - i know my issues are all in my head, how do you find a hypnotherapist who deals with riding issues?

I have a friend who is a hypnotherapist, and she has horses.
I would have gone to her, but because we have known each other since middle school, i did'nt think i would take it seriusly. I would probably get a fit of the giggles. :D

I had never considered Hypnotherapy before.... will now though!

I have been having lessons to help with my confidence as I had a bad accident about three years ago (not on my horse). We are making progress and I am getting better, I have hacked out with the instructor too. I find that the more you do the easier it gets and I have found that when something 'happens' and I deal with it I mend a little more in my mind (if that makes sense)....

It makes a lot of sense to me, totaly understand what you mean!

Its silly really - you know like if he spooks badly or if I get him past a real spooky monster in the hedge it is a little milestone. My horse is brill in traffic its the other stuff (bags, tarmac of varying colour, drains ect) although my accident did not involve the road I did used to really worry about 'what if?' Took a long time for me to deal with this and I still am in some ways. Time really is a great healer but anything that can aid the healing process I am open to :o

Yes I would pay an instructor. I need to start riding and leading whilst hacking out so will probably get someone to come along with me for the first few times as I'm new to the area, my horses are both equally loopy but I can't hack them out alone as they get too stressed beng apart! The joys of having two horses!
