short of the long story. friend felt v sorry for this pony that a dealer had-took it on, no known history apart from its age and breed(passport) . when we saw it, it looked ok-if a little thin(we suspected worms or starvation) we can see she has had previous lammi by the deep rings on her feet and the very dropped soles...she almost 'goose steps' on her back feet. had a vet out for her who ran bloods and said no liver damage or kidney failure. gave her vit injection, and some stuff to slow bowel movement(she has dioreah (sp?) . is currently in stable and on 5 very small feeds a day or high fibre cubes and plenty of hay as the vet doesnt want to feed her too much too quickly as she is very thin-you can see her ribs and she has a ewe neck etc. she is alert, but she is thinner than when she first arrived 48 hrs ago and her 'goose step' is exaggerated now. she is not showing signs of current lammi, vet did check. its amazing how when we saw her on sat she just looked a little thin and suddenly to this. we have been told to worm her as this is another thing the vet is wondering. question is, if we can get her back to health-do you think she would be rideable(as in little walks and trots) with the fact that there has obviosuly been some degree of pedal bone rotation. also-vet hasnt said much but if there is worm damage causing this is it treatable???? do you think it sounds like her future is bleak??

I would just concentrate on building her up and getting her better, what did the vet say about this 'goose step?'
Remember that with being in she may be stiffer hence it is exaggerated. What is her age? Also she may be tucked up with stress.
I would get the vet back ask whether she is suffering from Lami and what you can do about this.
Get some Blue chip into her, this works miracles for rescues!
Take her out for a walk and turn her out for an hour a day this may well help.

I'm afraid worm damage is untreatable i think my pony has it , I have her on a vitamin supplement that is easy to absorb. Best of luck keep us posted.

Not quite the same but my dog 's 'worm damaged'
I hasten to add he was a 'rescue' case and came to us, 2 years ago, like this

It's left him unable to utilise his food efficiently so we feed him a low fat/ nutrient dense diet.
He will always be quite a lean dog BUT his coat is now super glossy and his eyes bright .
Sounds like the pony has a fighting chance with you guys, I hope it all works out well x

If her pedal bones have rotated she will need very careful, expensive remedial shoeing after xrays etc etc. If she has worm damage diet will need to be carefully managed. I think you may need some expert help with this one, but good luck to you.

i do hope she gets better......
you'd be best waiting til she has a bit of condition on so then you can rethink about riding her.

I had a pony that had 9 degrees of rotation in 1 front foot and 7.5 in the other. They usually PTS at 10.

He took 6 months but returned to ridden work, PC jumping etc, all barefoot.

I am in a similar situation as you but I dont think mine has worm damage.
I posted pics of blues feet a while back as I was worried.
She has seen the farrier and all is ok and she has her corner of soil in the field with the boys.
The other day the little bag got put of her 'bit' and charged like billeo round the field. Bless her she is the ugliest thing I have ever seen with a ewe neck and ugly face !!!!!!BUT she is the perfect first pony ans she is now very happy indeed.
Dont worry, they are rideable once you polish them up a bit and give a bit of tlc
