Which bit is stronger, a jointed American Gag or a cheltenham gag? I have a young horse who is quite strong and need something different to use. Is there anything else that anyone can suggest that's stronger than a snaffle but not as strong as a gag? Also he has a very narrow mouth (4 1/2") so that when I ride him in a French link it catches the edges of his mouth. Does anyone knwo of any doubel jointed bits but the piece in the middle is really small?? Hope you can understand what I am talking about!!

How long is a piece of string?

Honestly I think it depends on the horse. My PF goes very well in a happy mouth straight bar dutch gag- much better than in a kimblewick, for instance. I use a curb strap too (which I'm sure limits the action, making it milder). Perhaps you could try something like that?
Blimey, he HAS got a little mouth, hasn't he? I understand exactly what you mean about the link catching the corners of his mouth.
