Anyone kn ow which are better? I now have a pair of NEW airflow front boots for my horse who has very little legs, but haven't bought the hinds as at £50 a pair I can't afford two pairs at the mo! But PE have now updated their range and do small - so shall I buy small PE boots to go on his hinds, or tr and sell my NEW ones (having been worn once!) and get a full set of PE boots?

Must say the NEW ones feel ever so slightly flimsy so would be tempted to have something a bit chunkier on back legs as he does occasionally drop a hind - have had clarendons for last 4 years and they feel much more 'robust' somehow, but the NEW ones do have carbon fibre inserts etc!

Help, opinions required!!

i really like the PEs, and they have an updated range now, so more to chose from

i have an old pair of LW NEWs which i use for everyday use, I wouldnt use them for cross country as they are pretty flimsy, and although the tendon gaurd is good, the padding down the front of the boot is very thin, and doesnt offer much impact protection imo

Ohhh no - you two have both just reaffirmed exactly what I thought of the NEW ones - just doesn't seem to be much padding and when he gets lazy with a leg and I hear it clonk a fence (not often but does happen!) the NEW ones just wouldn't fill me with confidence!
So shall I ebay my NEW ones, use my old clarendons this weekend for MUnstead (with a lot of tape as the hook and eye fastenings have given out!) and buy a full set of PE ones? And if so, which PE ones - airflow? Or the fleecy lined ones? I do like something that seems quite 'solid' between potentially my horse's leg and the fence!

i would think the NEWS would be better protection than the clarendons as they have tendon/cannon bone protection, mmmm i dont know

i have the PE extreme and PE air cooled-the old orignial versions, they are all updated now, and am very happy with both
I reckon any of the PE eventing boots would be good, as long as they have tendon/cannon bone protection

I use the NEW LWt ones infront and they are fine, not as huge fan, but they were cheap and do the job

but really dont like the airflow ones!

Havent seen any of the new PE ones, so dont know what the tendon guards are like...

See, its the flippin airflow ones I have!! Clarendons don't have th solid bar protection thingys but they are pretty solid material! J went through a barbed wire fence once and came out unscathed - clarendons still show the scars!
Guessing new PE ones will be simiar to old one but in new colours and SIZES! Typical. Do we like airflow in general? Is it worth it really? Horses have managed for years with air vents I guess....but then maybe thats just cos they weren't available! Oh its such a minefield!

I use the PE air cooled in the field and they definitely do keep his legs cooler. When i was waiting for them to arrive in the post he wore NEWs in the field and his legs sweated up and he was very uncomfy (so stopped using them!) with the PE aircooled his legs are sweat free and cool, so def think they do their job

I find the PEs are a funny fit on my horses legs. I had a set and they spun round so i opted for the NEW light weight XC set and they are great.

I have a 16.3hh warmblood although he is not big boned. I had the large ones then when i found they were spinning round after xc i just spent the extra money and got him medium sized NEW ones and they have been great.
I looked at the NEW airflow ones and the light ones are not as flimsy. I have the fluffy ones on front and they are even less flimsy than my normal hind ones. I feel a bit like they are not wearing them for long then they are off and we will ice legs anyways to cool.

Hmm, ok, a totally different shape/size to my lad though. Are the NEW ones you have the lightweight or the air cooled? I did hear that the PE ones come up quite large, so would def be buying the small.

Yeah but i wonder if they are loose and spinning on a horse with more bone maybe they would be looser on your horse. I wonder if anyone with a similar horse to yourself has tried them. Its so hard. Do you have a stockest anywere near you that you could take your boots that do fit to and size them against the PE ones?

I have the combo boots from PE and they are fab - I have NEW boots as well and think they are not as well made in general but I think boots are largely personal preference.

I bought the Combo ones jumptoit - I wanted the burgundy ones (I know I'm a geek) and the smallest they did then were Medium and they fitted round his leg but bit below the fetlock was too long if that makes sense? So I sold them to a friend with a slightly bigger horse and she loves them!

Genjar, no, PE don't sell in many tack shops I don't think? Can always order them and return tho I guess. Might hang on to the NEW ones for time being then once happy I have a suitable replacement culd ebay them!
