i want a saddle for my youngster...so:-
- i dont want to spend loads as he can have a nice new one when hes finished growing and less likely to throw himself around (not that he will as hes exceptionally behaved lol :) )
- i would prefer a leather one ...
- obviously the fit is very important .. i want to give him the best possible start :)

so has anyone had or ridden in one? opinions? they're on ebay for under £100!! it would only be to back him in, then pherhaps keep as a spare?

other recommendations are welcome :)

I'm in the same position and researching options (adjustable, treeless, synthetic) currently swaying towards a Saddle Company Saddle. I wouldn't get a Gallop/cheap one as I want his first saddle to be a nice experience for him.

see thats what i thought... but if someone had positive experiences with one they might be worth a shot!! i was just looking at saddle company ones as you wrote that! they're not badly priced either tbh.

hey there :)

Erm my friend used to have one for her horse...I wouldn't recommend. They are reallly badly made. The quality isn't good. Also I have heard a lot of people saying that they have caused back problems for their horses.

Have you tried looking at some second hand leather ones? :) May find something not too far off that price?

Good luck :)

Awful awful saddles.
Depending on the size of your horse I may have a Wintec I would be willing to part with for not alot of money. PM me if you want

thankyou :) iv been lookin on other forums too and this seems to be the thought of most people! a second hand leather one was my first thought, i just came accross the gallop and thought i'd ask! back problems and poorly made stuff are nowhere near good enough for my little one :)

I think there that price for a reason! ;)

Depending on your budget, if you want something that you can adjust while your youngster changes shape then I'd recomend a Thorowgood, with changeable gullet and fish system, you also have a good girth system so you have a few things there that will help with fit and that you can alter as they change shape, they also have the flocking slits so they can be re-flocked and adjusted that way too, as well as choosing the model best suited to your horses shape, hi wither, cob, etc You can pick them up second hand, have a look on ebay and Preloved.

Kent & Masters (leather version of the TG saddle) same features as above but you can also get shim inserts as well, again if you look for a second hand one you could pick one up for the same price as a new synthetic TG saddle depending on it's condition.

Wintecs, I personally don't like them, well not the older ones but the latest models as much better, so if you go for a second hand wintec, make sure it's the latest model rather than one of the older ones, they will be a bit more but the difference in price will be worth it. :)
