I became a Nanny last month to a beautiful granddaughter. I feel so blessed.
Anyway, I was competing in an ODE last weekend I wondered how many other grannies/ nannies are still out? competing. I‘m in my late 50’s and riding better than ever. I guess when I can’t read the numbers on the fences it will be time to stop!
What are you other Grannies/Nannie’s upto?

im a few years behind in early 50's and would love to be out competing but both horses are currently lame and it's not an option. I seem to have developed a thing for rehab and rescue pets. Both horses and one dog, I guess though even 10 years ago i didnt' have the ability to take them on that I do now

fifties and sixties is not old, i get so annoyed when it gets suggested otherwise. I am 65 just broken in a project horse who is going great, I hunt every week, compete at dressage and showing, and do multiday rides around the countryside, have done one 5 day and one 7 day this year. I am riding probably the best I ever have. Our hunt has multiple riders out who are well into the 70's and a lady in her 80's who is still jumping. On our 7 day trek of most days being 40kms we had an 80 year old who coped better than many of the younger riders.
Lots of dressage riders are in their 60's
Ps I not a granny as I don't like kids!

You sound amazing. I've got a two year old in the field and thinking perhaps he wasn't such a good idea as I'll be 60 by the time I get on but reading what you are up to makes me feel inspired

64, 8 grandkids, training, showing, planning to ride PSG next year...

While I'd love to have my 20 year old body back, I'm happy to trade it for the knowledge, experience, patience and empathy I've gained over the years. It's made me a better rider and a better human being.

You’re as old as you feel! There does seem to be an assumption that anyone over 60 is old but it’s really down to individual perspective. The trick is to plan for the future and try to have suitable horses lined up. I’ve been riding for over 65 years and not planning to give up anytime soon. Riding helps to keep you fit mentally & physically 😀 my grandchildren don’t ride currently, one gave up because it was too hard work grooming, the other is getting enthusiastic but a Lille put off by big sister who doesn’t do cold, wet and mud 😂

Not all over 50s/60s/70s are grannies, and it doesn't come across as a complimentary term if it just means old.
I'm in this age group, older than OP, but find so often that I have better health and fitness than a lot of teenagers and people half my age.
It isn't amazing that I ride, any more than it is for anyone younger.

Congratulations, I am approaching 57 and also a granny, Last year I took part in the H&C TV All Star Academy Series and was dubbed the "Galloping Granny" by Megan Elphick, which I thought was hilarious!!!!

I definitely didn't take offence and actual hoped it would inspire others to get out and embrace their dreams, age is just a number, get out and do what you want while you still can !

Last autumn I was sat with several of the western ladies and they were planning to drive out to Germany with their young horses for the Q completion that’s held over there this autumn. Some are 70+ and the others late 60s. Gave me a good kick up the backside!

Love it! thats just what us older ladies need

Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter! I have a nearly five year old grandson whom I adore, no more planned sadly! I am just getting back into riding after 5 years at the age of 55- I had a beautiful big ID mare that wasn't rideable in the end, sadly lost her in late March, just bought an 8yo cob mare (much closer to the ground) so taking things slow and steady. The path to true happiness never did run smoothly, she is of course much greener than expected so am also getting some help and working on my weight and fitness, but a sweeter, gentler soul you couldn't wish to meet. Although I miss my big girl, I am so excited to have the opportunity to ride again and have bought lots of pink gear, I don't give a stuff what anyone thinks. Never had a pony a a child, so my pink phase is upon me :) I have no grand plans, just to be happy together and have some fun.

I’m loving the idea of your pink phase 😁 The match match doesn’t have to just be for the younger ones
