My boy is in eggbar shoes and i am starting to do more work with him, he is dying for me to let him have a gallop but i am worried to in these shoes.
just wondered how much fast work other people do in them?

He has an old navicular fracture with a bone spur and an arthritic pastern joint.
I have tried him barefoot but it didn,t work out for him, have also had him in PLR shoes which were quite good except that they would move and wear out in two weeks. So my vet and farrier decided on eggbars and he is doing well in these!

Sorry to sound like a completely wet blanket but are you sure it's him that is dying for a gallop? Given his history, I suspect you've had some difficult times trying to keep this guy rideable - perhaps I'm getting old but if it were me I think I would accept that perhaps his galloping days are behind him and enjoy him being sound rather than risk setting him back. Sorry, I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear.

To be honest, i did think we would only be walking round the block, but he has improved so much even my vet has given me the go ahead to work him.
obviously i watch the ground i am on and don,t do any tight circles or jumping but he loves to go out he is only 11 and an ex racer.
He tears round his field like a lunatic but never seems the worse for it, so i just thought a little bit of fast work on good ground would be nice for him, i have heard of other people still hunting with similar problems!

Never had any problem with galloping in eggbars.. my guy lives in over reach boots, and tbh it's not like you can stop them galloping around in the field either. I've never had any problems with it.

Mines in them due to TB feet, collapsed heels. He's been in them over a year now and his feet have dramtically changed shape/ angle, no where near as flat.

invest in good over reach boots or bell boots. increase his cantering gradually til doing big canter. egg bars are fine when horse is used to them. depends on how extended they are in the long term. please remember the reasoin he was put in remedial shoes and choose yor going carefully. good luck, and yes you can return to normal work in time and with care and good boots!
