Could anyone recommend me some gallops in the york malton area which are available to hire for getting an eventer fit? Preferably ones with a hill would be a big bonus too! Have thought about possibly ringing a couple of the local trainers but no idea on who to ask!

Well you live in the right area for it at least! :)

You can use Malton gallops. It's £14 + VAT/horse (they bill you monthly) and they shut at 2pm so you have to be off by then. I've got a number for John the Gallop Man, FB me if you want it. I go occasionally on a Tuesday if you want company.

A few eventers use Mark Walford's at Sheriff Hutton - don't know whether that's a personal favour thing or whether he'd let anyone on. Wouldn't hurt to give him a call though as that's pretty close for you and trainers rarely turn down money ;). He's got a website.

Mick/David Easterby are at Sheriff Hutton too. They've got really good long uphill gallops (I got run off with uphill there once!!!) but not sure whether they let eventers on and I'm too scared to ask. Got a number if you fancy it though.....

Mike Sowersby would definitely let you use his - he trains at Goodmanham near Market Weighton (10mins from Port Royal) I've got his number if you want and he's got a serious hill.

Further afield Helen Bell looks to have miles and miles of all-weather and she hires it out.
