Is so much fun. He loves to join in :) Today he has helped dig up some roots of a particularly stubborn jasmine, dug a hole to reposition a climbing fuchsia and ripped up some old bits of matting that needed getting rid of. The 2 ESS decided it all looked like hard work and snoozed on the decking in the sun but little Archie was in his element. He is our first terrier and is such a character :)

Yep it is great - until they dig up everything you have planted! My OH "trained" our JRT to dig for him. Not sure why he was so amazed when she did some more "helping" next time she was out there. Years later I still have to keep an eye on her in the garden. She is encouraged to dig in the woods on walks instead now. She and my sons JRT have a project they have been working on every time they go to the local clay shoot. I think the job has been going on the about 5 years now. One day someone will fall down it!

Brilliant at digging up moles, often before they have had chance to make a zit on your lawn as well - so long as you don't mind your lawn looking like the Somme.

My little girl gets that exact look just before she pounces. She has never caught one yet but has caused endless mess looking. I just love watching them "listening" like that.

You're so lucky - wish Katie would go after moles. She has set her sights somewhat lower and just catches/plays with/occasionally eats (bleurgh) worms.

My husband would get extremely grumpy about the mole hills on the lawn...that was until our youngest GSP developed a similar plan of attack as described above and now husband is even grumpier about said dog's excavation efforts to catch the mole and the resulting craters in the lawn, where mole hills once were....oops...;)

Over here we have lizards galore in the garden...my new pup is going to love those! I'm a keen gardener and have dotted decorative flagstones in amongst my flower beds to discourage digging...it seems to work well and as the pup grows up I remove them and get my garden back.
