When they advertised a garlic product on FB, I challenged them over their use of garlic and they replied with so-called sources as "evidence". So I checked that evidence and find that the sources were either human based, had no security certificate so couldn't be opened or drew no conclusions about fly repelling or palatability. So I challenged them and they then claimed its efficacy (and safety!!!) is based on long term use. Not quite the same is it, lots of things like molasses have been used for a long time but doesn't make them good or safe..

I may be a horse owner but I'm not stupid. Talk about trying to pull the wool over - what else might their products be based on I wonder

My old boy had sweet itch, and veterinary advice was to avoid anything with garlic in it; I remember having to screw up my eyes and scour every feed bag and supplement for the dreaded stuff!! It seems to creep in everywhere.

It really does! It is tricky to find feeds that are molasses free that don't have garlic added, particularly if you have a fusspot like my mare.

I used to religiously add garlic from Feedmark or buy garlic containing feeds before I came on here and became aware that it was a bad idea. Dodson and Harrell pasture mix, anyone o_O?

Garlic does seem IMHO to help with deterring flies, though.

ETA I see that Feedmark still market it as Clitheroes garlic. That’s a blast (or a strong niff!) from the past!

If you have an issue with the accuracy of their advertising why not report them to the ASA? If they make a positive claim like "proven to deter flies" or whatever then they must have appropriate evidence to back it up. They clearly won't listen to your obviously strongly held views - so report them! if you consider their claims misleading. The link is here https://www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html

And no - I don't feed garlic, work for feedmark or currently feed any feedmark products.
