garlic in feed can i ....?????

garlic powder is quite expensive so im wondering if i could buy garlic tablets of the human kind and crush them up and add to feed that way. it works out a hell of a lot cheaper to do this

are human garlic tablets ok for the gee gees??? and how many tablets should i crush per feed if anyone knows?

Absolutely no idea!!! LOL Flakes are cheaper and you can get garlic in bulk.

Personally I stay away from garlic as it "can" in some cases cause Heinz anaemia in horses. I have one that was fine with garlic "one" day and not the next - cue vets bill. Makes me VERY nervous about including it in the diet.

the other way to do it is to soak a load of fresh garlic in veg oil and feed it that way!

I see no reason why you couldn't feed human garlic capsules.

I'd have THOUGHT so...but don't quote me on it - we use human glucosamine tablets in our neds feeds so I can't see why not.
Have always used garlic - brilliant for keeping the coat shiny and keeping the flies away!

yes i feed glucosamine tablets to one of mine too lol. asda loves me for all the vits and minerals i buy from them
i but cod liver oil and garlic powder for dogs and iron tabs for the staffy as she has iron deficiency

Read the packaging but most of the garlic tablets intended for humans are solely made up of pure garlic oil from the bulb so no reason not to. But you would have to make sure it was the 100% garlic ones and not ones that contain a heap of other stuff in them!

The equine garlic is much cheaper than human stuff. There is only a tiny amount in the tablets/capsules.

Same here - when my last horse was blood tested he had a low red blood cell count - just what he didn't need with a dodgy heart. Always fed garlic before but after researching it's effects I will never feed it again.

100% agree with this.

I won't feed garlic to any of mine.

I also do NOT feed garlic... there is lots of research out there showing the negative effects of equine consumption but nothing proving the benefits.
Just type garlie and horses in your search engine - Equisearch have one article.

For midges I use Avon skin so soft - fantastic stuff, and for biting flies nothing I have found beats Coopers.

Neem herb (fed) and oil (topical) works brilliantly too. Is also antiseptic, cleansing etc. Works fairly similarly to garlic, without the same side effects...
