my lad has been very ill for quite a few weeks now anyway he was in the vet school for 15 days and as a result of him being fasted for 3 days for a procedure he developed gastric ulcers. he was gastroscoped and has grade 3 and 4 gastric ulcers. he has been on gastro guard for 4 weeks come tuesday. he is also on a high dose of steriods (for ongoing condition)and pain medication as and when required ( he only gets it when it is an abosulate must as don,t want to agrivate the ulcers. This week he has started to grunt and grind teeth again and after speaking to vet school he has also been put on to antiseptin (sp).

he is on adlib haylage 4 small feeds a day and gets fibre nut during the night to supplement his fibre intake. he also get alovera(sp).

is there anything else i can do for him and also how long did it take for your horses ulcers to settle down and what is the long term management for the horse. i want to do the best for toby.

thankyou in advance for your help

Star had them, back Easter time I think. She was scoped and had grade 2/3's so she had a month on the full dose of gastroguard, re scoped at the end of that month and still some grade 2's. She had another month of Gastroguard which almost resolved it, so had another month of half dose Gastroguard. She is now totally clear thankfully.

I feed her adlib hay, usually about 15KG per night, she is usually turned out in the day. Feed wise she is on the Growell Equilibra plan which is extremely high fibre.

As an added precaution she has Prosoothe every day as well.

So far so good, I am pleased with her progress
