Is there a supplement available in Tack Shops I could pop my girl on?
Pretty certain she has gastric ulcers so want to know if there is anything I can add to her feed to try and give her some relief until I can get her to the vets for scoping etc as she is quite unhappy at the moment.
Thanks in advance.

I had my horse scoped for ulcers as I was 99% sure he had them- ex racehorse, very skinny, bit stressy showing some odd behaviour etc. I was so sure he had them I almost started some supplements to help before getting him scoped. It turned out he was completely clean! Literally not an ulcer in sight!

I then asked for blood work to be done as was sure there must be a reason and it turned out he reacted to the tape worm tests- even thought he was completely up to date with worming the vet seemed to think he had built up a resistance to wormers and the only one that would work would be Equitape. He is now a healthy lovely horse!

I'm not saying your horse doesn't have ulcers but perhaps run some blood work first- much cheaper! X

Mine has grade 1 and 2 ulcers, he crib/windsucks quite badly. I bought him windsucking a couple of years ago, just the last few months he got stressed and I got his bloods done, nothing unusual so we got him scoped. He had a lot of grade 1 and grade 2 ulcers. He went on gastrogard for 4 weeks, we don't think it has completely resolved them so he is going back on another months supply. Whilst on gastrogard the first time he pretty much stopped cribbing so i hope when he is clear he will ease up a bit.

I also got told corn oil is good. I give him ad lib hay, he has calm and condition, alfa a oil, simple system lucie pellets and nuts (alfalfa) baileys lo cal balancer and a pre/probiotic. He also now lives out unless the weather is horrific and that does seem to be making a difference. Overall happy horse :)

Hopefully this course of gastrogard will get rid of the ulcers and then i will be looking to put him on a preventative. So any ideas would be great. :) Good luck.

HI Jo, don't have the bag in front of me as used it up but I believe that it is made up of cinnamon/ginger base with amino Acids, vitamins, minerals but the main ingredient making it work is the amino acid l-arginine that creates nitric oxide, a healing gas within us all. Just brill!
