Any suggestions please.....
Brief history
7 weeks ago after a month or so of a lethargic horse, Fi became a bit fussy to eat and had some mild colic. After many discussions with the vet she went to hospital and was diagnosed with Severe gastric ulcers. She had 4 weeks of gastrogard then another gastroscope 2.5 weeks ago which showed that they had pretty much all cleared up. We then reduced the gastrogard dose and increased her turnout and work etc. After a few days she seemed uncomfortable so was advised to reduce the turnout again as she did not seem happy out in the field. She has been ok, a bit perkier but started to drop weight quite fast, and again being very fussy with what grass she would eat and not really eating much hay. Its very unusual for her to drop weight have owned her for 18 months and never dropped anything even when on 3 months box rest last winter for a tendon injury.
I spoke to the vets yesterday and they agreed they would take her back in and do more tests, said its very unlikely that the ulcers would have returned so quickly and odd that only since the ulcers have gone has she lost so much weight. The only suggestions they could give me without seeing her is that she could have tumors in the Lymphatic system or her bowels are not absorbing nutrients properly. Only other symptoms are that she is grinding her teeth more than normal and her gut is making very load noises, still a bit lethargic and looks a bit sad.
I am preparing myself for the worst but if anyone has any ideas or info about the conditions which have been suggested it would be much appreciated. I am waiting to hear from the vets but feeling useless in the meantime and cant think of anything else.
Thanks
