Gastroguard (sp?)

You can get it for about £550 a month but whilst it is a fantastic product it's stupidly priced. What we did with my TB when he came home from racing with suspected stomach ulcers was we looked up the ingredients in Gastroguard and baught them individually and made a nice herby mix up in a bucket. It lasted about 2 months and cost £36 in total - including postage. I can't for the life of me remember what was in it now but it worked! 2 months later and he was putting on weight and eating away like no ones business. Much more settled in his work and wind sucking less too.

The only ingredient in gastroguard is omeprazole, so a herbal mix wouldn't do the same.

Youmcan get it cheaper online, but you'll still need a prescription from your vet, beware foreign sites selling generic omeprazole, it is not legal to buy it from abroad.

Have you had a scope diagnosis? What grade were the ulcers? I have heard that many people are having success with lower doses, like half or even quarter doses of gg, so would keep the price down if it works for you.

Gastrogard is omeprazole. You can't buy that in this country without a prescription and it is illegal to import it, though plenty of people do. Perhaps you were thinking of another of the stomach acid product like coligone or settelex? I'm having good results on a very acid-y horse with Settelex (only been on it two weeks as yet, but even less weaving that when on prescription meds).
