Our horse has had to stay in today as twice this week he has come in blown up and gasy. He paws the ground and goes down as if he has colic, when we walk him a bit he is okay again. He is turned out in the morning until 4 ish. Any idea's what is causing this? Any one else experiencing the same? Is it the weather? Is it best to keep them out at night and in all day? Idea's please.

Sorry... cant help... but, sorry again... made me giggle... you see my sister is very 'gassy' at the moment... and she will kill me when she sees this!!!
Much, much, much more importantly.... I hope you find your answer!!!
PS... yes could be grass, and restricted grazing until he gets better would be sensible IMO.

Oh hugs sorry to hear that!Know it will worry you with his past colic history!.
A horse at our yard is very gassy at moment(he is also colic prone but bothing removed like your lad)owner takes him in thru day to keep him off grass for a bit.

Hi tequi He is in all night just now so I am thinking I should keep him all day and out all night. We are off to Rowallan tomorrow for 3 days. How are you doing anyway

Mine was very gassy and had very mild colic a while ago and I now muzzle at night and stable by day. This has stopped the grass belly and all the farting. Hopefully next month I can do away with the muzzle at night.

keep her in for a couple of days on hay and a very bland diet go and get your self some fennel it is fantastic it is a product by global herbs that should help!

What your horse is experiencing is overfermentation of the hind gut which is producing excess gas build up - It's really uncomfortable but can be prevented - PM me if you want to ask me any questions

fennel aids in digestion aid ssothes the gassy build up yea sacc my help as well to aid her digestion in her stomach before it fermations in her hind gut!

Hi, lady on our yard is having the same problem and its always after heavy rain. Her horse was out for 2 hours today and he was colicky but fine after a short while.

That's right, hopefully the grass shouldn't be so rich after the end of this month and it has more goodness in it during the day. I use the shires muzzle and it really has made all the difference.

Another vote for Coligone. Ace product. My boy stuffed his face with over lush grass and went down with gassy colic. Thank god it shifted with a huge fart, Buscopan injection and stabling but I spoke to the Coligone people and they advise giving him a dose every time anything potentially stressful is gonna happen to him. He is changing fields Saturday so he starts a 3 day course of Coligone Friday. Coligone soothes and lines the gut - vets swear by it. H's mum is your link. Plus, obviously, you need to make sure ned doesn't have unlimited access to grazing unsuited to his breed or he's a prime candidate for serious colic and laminitis. x
