I've got my GCSE PE riding assessment at the weekend... It doesn't sound particularly difficult... just got to do some basic stuff and then either SJ, XC or dressage...(I'm doing SJ)

Just wondering if anyone has done it? How hard is it? What exactly do I need to show that I can do? Basically any info would be good. Thanks

In my daughter's case the Assessor wasn't able to come out so she produced a dvd showing her grooming & tacking up, flatwork, jumping at pony club team training (which she set to music) and jumping a course of 2'9" - 3' at a local riding centre. Her Instructor watched it and then assessed her (also based on her knowledge from teaching my daughter over a period of time).

Good luck!

when i was doing gcse's all we had to do was make a video of stable management, like a bit of grooming and we had to talk our way through it and explain oursleves. then we had to add on a 5 minute riding clip on. we didnt have to ride infront of the teachers, is that what u have to do then?

It's really easy to get a 10

When I did mine (last year) all I had to do was hand in a video to PE teacher to watch. All it had on there was a novice dressage test, my own routine and 2 rounds of SJ around a 3' - 3'6 course

For mine I had to ride my own design of dressage test type thing, as long as it included the compulsary movements, like turn on the hanches and forehand, but i also added in some movements like flying changes and leg yielding

and I had to jump a small course of fences at 3.3"
that was about it really... really easy to get a 10 , you'll be fine , good luck

Good Luck btw!!

I helped a PE teacher do an assessment this year (i'm a teacher myself) It was for A-Level but am sure somethings wont be too much different... The Girl I went to see lost marks as she didnt wear a body protector when jumping, and that was a safety element on the spec... so make sure you read everything carefully and make sure you follow everything it asks even if its not something you'd do normally. This was for Ed-excel. Good Luck i'm sure you'll be fine

my riding instructor assessed me, i rode on the flat for a short time, demonstrating walk trot canter, medium trot and canter and some basic lateral work.
i then did a course of jumps around about 1m-1m05, all was videod and sent in with a written report form my instructer to my pe teacher. it was really easy to get a ten, i know alot of people that just showed walk trot canter, gettting on, tacking up and jumping a 2ft jump that got 10s, so dont worry about it you'll be great!!

If you have done a championship/ are county level in a sport then you get a 10

Im doing riding as 1 of my sports! The teacher said i shouldnt get my instructor to right in if i have a DVD as the instructor will be too pickey! And they know that i have ridden to a good level!! Good luck
