Gel Eze (blue stretchy bandage wraps)

Just got some of these and maybe they're just too technical for me (!), it says on the packaging that they can be used as a cooling wrap; un-trusty steed got a knock on his knee and it swelled up - hosepipe frozen. So having planned ahead and bought these wraps for the winter and put them in the freezer 'just in case' I removed said Gel Eze wrap from freezer which felt like it had been in there for ten minutes instead of ten days. Put it on the knee and before I could get the bandage on it was back to the temperature that it was when it arrived through the post! Have I missed something so far as how to actually get them to stay cold long enough to do any good?

Is it actually meant to be cold temperature-wise? I use Neo-Ice bandages regularily and although they aren't actually "cold" as such (as you dont freeze them - just pour liquid on them to reativate) - its the stuff in them which feels cold once on, if that makes sense?! Ive wrapped one round my arm to see if it worked and it does in the way that mint cools the skin. Maybe try it round one of your limbs to see if it does anything?

those Gel Eze things never stay cold for very long. They just don't work. Neo Ice bandages are much better.

Mine worked fine when my boy banged his leg. I took it from the freezer stuck it in a cool box drove the 5 mins to the yard and bandaged it on and it stayed cool for a couple of hours after that.

I have some - keep them in the freezer. Haven't yet needed to use them on my horse - but have used them on my ankle when I first came out of plaster - stayed cold for a good length of time and are easy to use. Certainly brought the swelling down in my leg without the burning sensations you can get with ice packs.....
