I put a post up in comp riders yesterday about Dexters pads, he was shod Friday and no a bit footy due to having the gel pads (blck ones) that heat up to dry and have made him sore

Thing is I have an event Friday so need him sound and to be riding him!

Do you think it would make any difference to have the pad taken out? Or is it just a matter of time for it him to become sound?

Any help appreciated! Also have a left a message with farrier about 10mins ago, he is usually pretty good so should call me back soon

is a tricky one.. i would have them taken out if he is still sore after being shod Friday. Andy had silicone pads put on three years ago and they crippled him, he couldn't take the constant pressure on his soles and it took him months to recover.. of course it's different for all horses but if he has sensitive feet then it may take him a long time to get used to them..
best thing to do id have a chat with the farrier but be prepared for not being able to event him on Friday..
not read your other post, why had he had the pads put in.?

He has pads in every time he is shod.

They have only ever made him sore for a day or so, but this time I took him XC schooling Sat am early so I think that has made it worse

wont be doing that again.

So he is used to the pressure on his soles. I think them just heating up when they dry has caused soreness

farrier is coming this afternoon to have a look make sure it isnt any tight nails or anything, then if not just have to wait for the discomfort to go

am seriously not having them again! Its driving me mad!

Have a jump lesson Weds too

Fingers crossed he is right by at least Weds

I'm really intrigued - can you describe the pads? My boy has silicone pads but they have never caused a problem and are the only thing that keeps him sound. My farrier uses a type that are injected into the space between his sole and the shoe. It then takes about a minute to dry. I'm sure they are creamy coloured when they first go in (although clearly they are currently poo stained colour!). Could you talk to your farrier about trying a different type of pad?
In the meantime I'm afraid I have no advice. I wouldn't want to take the pad out if he normally comes sound. Are you sure it is the pad causing the lameness and not the actual shoeing? Sorry lots of questions as I am genuinely intrigued!

He has sensitive TB feet!

Definitely isnt the shoeing he has improved his feet so much and he is never lame with normal shoeing.

These pads create heat as they dry and cause him to have sore/bruised soles

he usually (fingers crossed) comes sound after a few days

He has the black pads that inject in like yours
