I have just bought a 16.1 BWB mare that is a bit on the poor side, vet passed her on a 5* vetting although her back is fine he noticed white hairs where saddles have been badly fitting in the past. She has a very high wither and the dealer I have bought her from suggests she should be ridden with a gelpad just in case until she puts on abit more weight and muscle (btw the dealer bought her to take her away from early neglect, so no reflection on her, she has only had her 7 weeks)...

Which would you suggest to be the most comfortable and protective for her?

Use a prolite pad..

I got the saddle fitter for my new horse who was in poor condition and she refused to fit a new saddle! She said if she fitted a saddle now he might grow out of it in a fortnight. She said my current saddle with gel pad was the advisable thing to do for the moment and to call her back when he had put on more weight. My gel pad is an equi-gel.

Kanter she is booked in with a saddle fitter in 5 weeks time when I am due to fly to the UK, she will be fitted (I am really hoping the Ideal Suzanna fits her

) and hopefully durring the next month she will have filled out a little more. Annie will be due to be transported out to me in Norway after the 28th July.

I have been advised to use a sheepskin cloth or a gelpad to protect her back until she fills out - Vet who passed her on a 5 stage vetting last week suggested this to be a good idea, even if the saddle is fitted by a saddle fitter due to her condition, she is very thin skinned and right now does not have much coverage and has scarring from old saddle rubs, so I am being caring and taking precautions from vet advice. Pic of Annie included in signiture below the bay.

I think I will go for the Stephens sheepskin dressage cloth with intergrated gel patches on target areas.

Thanks for all the help.
