I have always put mine directly on my hoses back then numnah and saddle over the top, after reading this post yesterday when I went to ride I tried putting the gel pad between the numnah and saddle, after fighting with if for 15minutes, trying to squeeze gel pad im between saddle and numnah whilst keeping the gel pad square then putting in on horse and it falling off, then doing it again and gel pad ended up all squiff under saddle, then taking the nunmah off the saddle and putting that on horses back then gel pad then saddle and doing it all up on the horse. I decided today to go back to putting it directly on his back! It didnt seem to make any difference!!

Put the numnah on the horses back, then the gel pad, then the saddle!? Just think their back would get sweaty with the gel pad directly next to their skin, numnahs are designed to absorb sweat, but Gel type materials arent. But if it worlks for you
My horse sweats A LOT any time so he is generally no more sweaty under his gel pad than on the rest of his numnah,I hate the gel pad anyway, i think they press down on the withers too much (as mine is not shaped it seems to sink no matter how much you pull it up) but my OH insists its more 'comfy' for him and as he bought me the horse says I shouldnt ride without it (but on days hes not there i do!hehe) and personally I think they make no difference, if your saddle fits well enough you shouldnt need one
