has anyone competed on this relatively new synthetic surface yet? Number of large competition venues have laid this type of gel fibre surface and wondered what problems, if any, people have encountered. supposed to be good for any discipline, but have heard some negative feedback, with some competitors refusing to compete on said surface.

Id be very surprised if people refused to compete on gel track.......I cant see anything wrong with it myself, but then im not particularly fussy about surfaces, aslong as its well maintained and not deep or flooded im not too fussed.

Ive ridden on gel track and found it just as good as any other surface.

yes, quite liked it when it was just rolled and still fluffy, but seems to compact very quickly and harden. apparently a lot of people say their horses trip and stumble on it, and must admit when I've walked on foot over it, it sort of 'sucks' at your feet.

You need to check the name

Gel track is the Martin Collins racing surface, he does not sell it for arenas, for that he sells ecotrack (although geltrack is used as a generic name for his waxed surfaces)

Geltrack is not new, it has been at Stoneleigh for about 15 years.

Top waxed surfaces seem to be (in no particular order)
Martin Collins
Andrews Bowen
McArdle

What type is the new SJ warm up arena at Pontispool, thought it looked lovely, but heard lots of people complaining about it? It did seem a little hard underfoot and my horse did go better in the main arena but I wasn't sure if that was down to the surface!!

We have it in our outdiir school and my horse always trips on it and regularly pulls shoes off out there so i mostly ride indoors on our rubber surface!!
