What is the oldest you can safely geld a stallion?

I know of one that was cut at 10 and then broken and he was fine. Would depend on the temprement though.

I don't think there is an upper age limit. However, how effective it will be in curbing sex drive and altering the horse's temperament very much depends on the individual horse and whether the stallion has been used to cover mares or not. Some stallions that are gelded late do not show much change in behaviour. Saying that, my Icelandic was gelded at 7 after covering mares and he is the most un-stallion like little horse you could ever wish to meet. The only give away sign is that he has an incredibly cresty neck.
