Novicey question here, after musing about it earlier. What is the oldest age you should geld a horse at? I was thinking technically it's possible at any age (older horses though I would think are more at risk from surgery) but for older stallions, it maybe shouldn't be done as they would find it harder to adjust?

Following on from that, stallions at stud - what happens to them after they 'retire' (from old age?) - are they retired like a general horse?

I have no idea what I'm talking about :) but was interested in finding out!

One of my loveliest, quietest liveries was gelded and nine. Fab horse, no issues with mares, and is currently turned out with two geldings and a stallion, with no problems at all.

Our fjord was gelded at 8 and is an absolute sweetie, the mini who was gelded at 2 thinks he is far more of a stalion and everything should be about him!
