Well after Thursdays horror when my mini shetland gelding attacked my new mini filly, I'm delighted to report that the new strategy is working well. Borrowed a friend's huge field and turned all 6 shetlands out on it. Neutral territory plus they have to stick together as a proper herd because of the strangeness of it! Gelding and filly grazing happily within inches of each other! And when they come in for a few hours every day new filly Maddie and veteran mare Lady are separated from Molly and the boys simply by closing the small interconnecting door to the big end stable. All harmony and peace once more. I'm so relieved the herd is back together and Maddie (strawberry roan mini shetland at right of pic)is unharmed and has apparently forgiven Blue (blue roan mini gelding on left). And breathe.......................
