My gelding has been herding my new mare, all good in the first 24 hrs now he keeps cornering her , I've split them up, any ideas how I can introduce them in a safer way?

Put a strip of electric fence down the middle of the paddock for a day or two so they can say hello / whatever.

Then put them in together and give the mare a chance to stick up for herself. I have never known a mare be beaten by a gelding :p

If they are both yours and they must live together use electric fence to round the corners of your paddock. This way the gelding cannot corner the mare.

That is what I would do if they were mine anyway! Unless of course the mare is becoming stressed / not allowed any rest / being used as a constant punchbag.

My gelding is very dominant with our 18 yr old ex broodmare, had her just under a year, if he says move, she does, I find it odd as she has had many foals, so in theory knows how to put young ones in there place, I would love to find a way to stop him

My gelding was a nightmare , parading his victims round the field and a few really nasty bites.
At the last place we were at he stood on his own for 6 months with company over the fence..staring at the clydesdales in the neighbouring field..
the owner of the clydesdales rescued us and we put him in with them..with a view to seperating him off if things got bad.
That was 16 months ago. He has become well socialised and now lives out 24/7 with two clydesdales, mare and gelding, a percheron mare and a yearling filly. I really would nt have believed that he could have settled so well,
I get the feeling that he might not have had much company when younger and just did nt know how to behave..my theory is that the allready established herd has taught him some manners.

I have got a gelding that is very dominant. We have got another gelding and three mares here and he only goes in with the other gelding. He is a bit of a bully and occasionaly shows riggish behaviour. He isnt and the rest of the time is fine but cant help but push the others around.
He ends up seperated completely sometimes until he calms down

what does he do when he is cornering her? How long have they been in together? I would be wary of using just elec fence to separate in case of scrapping over it (though that depends if that is likely)

TBF my gelding is in charge of mum's mare which is a very good thing because she is a wimp and needs someone to tell her what to do ;)
