After much thought I decided to try my gelding on Happy Jacks bedding (chopped wheat and rape straw). He is a greedy horse and after looking into it decided that as its coated in pine oil and a friend now has her whole yard on the stuff greedy ponies and all I would give it a try. So I made up a bed and he guess what he thought he was in heaven and started tucking in like it was a feed. I did keep an eye on him and he has been ok incase he started to colic but he has been fine.

Has anybody else had a horse that likes to eat this bedding, I’ve been assured by the manufacturers that it will not harm him I wondered if anybody else has had any issues. I’m hoping that the novelty will soon wear off as he used to have a straw bed and never too bad with that then I moved onto shavings which I dislike.

we had a mare in on box rest with an injured foal. She was bedded out with straw , lovely fresh inviting looking stable , after a couple of days she compacted . The vet advised soaking her hay and sprinkling jeyes fluid on her bedding...that seems to have done the trick!
