. He has dropped enough to be gelded next week or so before hes out of isolation (And halter broken enough to turnout) but of course it being summer and the flys leaves that risk? Also wonder if he'll get more 'presents' if I leave him till he starts acting like a colt?

Goes with out saying mare owning liverys and yard owner want him gelding soon as...

He will be stabled for either part the day so maybe turn him out at night when flys have gone to bed but along with other horses...? Or do you think its worth waiting till closer to winter?

Peoples experiences of gelding in summer?

I would never have an entire gelded in the summer. Flies and the subsequent risk of infection is too great. I'd leave him till September at the earliest.

I would also leave till sept. What lot did you get - tell me tell me - ! I bought a lot on thurs too - there were some lovely ( well bred too ) youngsters. With my experience of buying foresters off the sales ( not that vast but I have made a few ( ahem ) purchases) I would spend the next little while buddying up with him and being good pals and instilling some good behaviour, that way I think he will have a better outlook on the future.

I wouldn't geld in the summer, the risk of flies and infection is too high and they need to be turned out quite soon after they're gelded to reduce swelling. In fact I doubt your vet would be too happy about gelding now anyway. Are the other colts he can get turned out with or even an older gelding who could act as a minder and teach him manners? I had a choice of gelding my connemara either in the spring or wait until the autumn. I opted for the earlier option as he was getting very coltish and bolshy to handle, even though he was only 10 months, however it wasn't affected his growth or presence, he's 2 now and is already 15 hands and has filled out to become a stunning pony. Good luck with him, I saw his pics in PG, he looks lovely.
