Got my new boy out the stable this morning and as he stood there tied up a thin stream of clear(ish) liquid came out of his sheath/penis. Only went on for 30 seconds or so then stopped. I had a look at his sheath and looks okay, felt in entrance and found a few bits of black stuff (smegma I believe euhhgg). No pain. Cleaned a few bits out and squirted baby oil in. I don't think he'd just had a wee and his penis wasn't down.

Should I be worried? Is this normal? I haven't had many geldings.

Oldred - I'm not exactly sure what you mean (too innocent?!?). Are you talking about him having a short pee? The liquid was coming from where that would or somewhere else?

Did he want a wee? Neither of mine will pee when they are tied on the yard. One of mine was driving me mad one day fidgeting about, then I noticed a bit of dripping going on... I untied him and let him get on the grass and he peed for England! (I'll try to listen a bit harder to him in future, poor man).

It wasn't a pee. It was more like something leaking out. No force behind it - like it was falling out not being pushed out. Interesting point woeisme, I was just in the process of putting him out from being in stable and tied him up, in the snow, onto the yard. Maybe he was wanting a pee and I interrupted him but some leaked out.

I'll be inspecting his bits on a regular basis today!

You shouldn't use baby oil, it is completely the wrong PH (acidity/alkalinity level) and can let bad bugs breed in there.
