So it’s been a while since I’ve seen or cared for a horse post gelding. My little 7month old colt is having his bits off in a couple of weeks.

I’m remember the old school ways of box rest for 3 days with 3/4 15min walks for swelling then if cold and dry turned out daily afterwards. Has this changed much? I’m very anti long term box rest unless anything is wrong or there is a risk of infection but with no flies and it being cold up here right now I can’t see any issues to being turned out.

Also vague idea of costs? Both boys are there to be felt quite easily now. The left one was hiding for a bit ;)

Yes, it's changed completely! Rest for twelve hours, then movement was what I was told for my two year old a year ago. £250 ish

Last colt I had gelded was 6 years ago but it was box rest until the sedative wore off and then out! I think I paid about £130. So there's a bit of variability but the gist is much less rest and a lot more movement now.
