I've just bought a horsebox which has plug sockets and TV connection in the living, so I need to buy a portable generator so that we can make use of these lovely things when we're staying away at competitions! I've never bought one before so I'm clueless about all the different types - can anyone advise or recommend one that they use? I'd obviously like one which is as quiet as possible too!

Sorry for this very boring topic, but I';d be very grateful for advice!

Thanks

When considering a generator for a horsebox you need to think about how noisy they are going to be when running. Many 'normal' generators will give you the power output you want but are too noisy & will annoy everyone around you.

Honda, as has been mentioned, are great, they make what is referred to as a suitcase generator. So called because it is compact, easier to carry & runs fairly quietly. The down side is they they are very expensive.

I had a similar dilema as you when I was buying a generator for my horsebox. I bought a generator which is almost the same as the Honda but a fraction of the price. I think they're made in china, almost identical, work well & are significantly cheaper. I bought a 2kw output one & this was plenty of power when we stayed at Blue Chip last year. This is a link to something very similar to the one I bought:

It's still expensive but it's about a third of the price of the cheapest Honda. I hope this helps you.

Oh....& if you get one buy yourself a motorcycle security chain & padlock to chain it to your lorry or it may go walkabout

Have you had a look at Horseboxworlds e-bay shop www.horseboxworld.com , they might have one. We had a "Crazy Frog" generator, (2 stoke and sounded like the crazy frog song !), but we got told at least 3 times to turn it off!, So we bit the bullit and now have an almost totally silent Honda one, chained to our lorry and the dog! (Cost £1100)
