I don't have electricity at my yard. Currently for clipping, I run extensions but it's not very convenient and means I clip in the corner of a paddock. Considering a generator but haven't a clue about them. What sort of generator would i need? Any advise/tips?
I have lights ran off a battery/ solar panel system so not needed for them.

Or get a powerbank, a rechargeable battery with an inverter that delivers 220V at 50Hz, then you can use your mains powered clippers. The powerbank is useful for other stuff, too, like as a booster for your car, emergency lighting, driving pumps... just make sure that you get one that can drive an inductive load (a motor) as well as a resistive load (lighting). And it is much smaller and lighter than a generator.

You might be able to find these at shops that sell things for caravanning or for trades like building and woodworking.

Good point about being attractive to thief's, I hadn't thought of that. I had thought of a battery pack for clippers but they are almost £200 for listers and I had thought that a generator may have more uses such as a back up in a power cut.

I'm going to investigate this

We don't have electricity at the field/stables and I spent ages trying to decide whether to go for a generator. We decided against it as they seem to be a magnet for thieves and we occasionally get a spate of agricultural thefts in the area.

I've got Heiniger Xplorer cordless clippers and found them to be brilliant even on my cobs yeti coat and like you have lights from a solar/rechargeable system. I did think it would be useful if the vets needed it for any equipment but our vets won't run their equipment off a generator which I can understand.

For generators, this type of thing would easily suit your needs. https://www.screwfix.com/p/impax-im1800ifg-1800w-inverter-frame-generator-240v/843hp

This will run all clippers, even the biggest clippers are only around 350w (This generator is 1800w).

A 1800w generatior will also run most power tools and most importantly even a small kettle!
Thanks, that's the type I had been looking at but I didn't understand what capacity I needed so the explanation really helps

Yep, it is fairly simple. Obvioulsy you want 240v (Some generators for buiding sites are 110v only, it doesnt matter if your also has 110v, but you definitely want 240v normal mains voltage). For the power output its in watts, the same measure as a light bulb, and this can basically be totalled up by adding together the wattage of everything that you plug in.

So on a 1800w generator you could run a set of 300w clippers, a 500w floodlight, a 100w radio, a couple of 300w power tools and a battery charger all at the same time and it would be fine, however if you plugged a kettle in, that are usually around 3000w it would trip the breaker straight away as that is over the 1800w output.

Generators come in all sorts of sizes, but the bigger they are the more expensive they are. I have a 1900w Honda generator and its fine for everything I have ever wanted (Except boiling a normal kettle!)

I would think a generator is an extremely expensive way of clipping a horse both to buy and in fuel if that is all you want it for? Cordless clippers. I use those even where there is power. I have Heineger ones with three battery packs but don't really need three. Each one lasts an hour or so if fully charged so yes can often do full clip with one.
