(Well... she did do a few in the Training section last year...)
I finally bit the bullet and entered Genie in her first Novice tests in the Restricted Section (which always makes me think of Hogwarts Library... Yes I am a child...). It has been delayed and delayed due to RC team things where they wanted her to do Prelim, but now she is consistently scoring well at Prelim and has been getting good scores Unaff Novice there was no reason to delay any further!
So, feeling a bit of the 'all the gear no idea' nervousness due to a spending spree at Wadswick the day before (hello navy jacket and beautiful Ayr8, bye bye bank balance) we headed off to Burrows Court yesterday to ride N27 and N37. It was warm and muggy, and poor Genie has a thick cob coat so was absolutely dripping with sweat, but she absolutely tried her heart out for me! Burrows has never been a venue she's liked for some reason.
N27 first, and I was so pleased with her. The only little bits that could have been better were the second give and retake in canter where she decided to stretch to the contact for once and almost fell on her nose, and when the surface pretty much gave way under her in one of the half 10s and she almost fell on her knees. My hearing has now deteriorated to the point that I often do not hear the bell so have a friend raise their arm when it has rung, this time she stood by the judge who mouthed to her 'nice test' afterwards! So I went to the scoreboard with some trepidation only to find it wasn't up!
So I worked the pony in for N37 and she wasn't quite so much in the mood (and to be honest, neither was I!) but she again tried for me once we got into the test. It was under a judge who for some reason has never scored her well so I had no expectations, just wanted a 'clear round' without my forgetting to halt on the first centre line or the give and retakes, etc. We managed that so job done.
Washed her off and got changed, then waited for the scores. Absolutely THRILLED with 68.9% for N27 (3rd Restricted and 3rd overall) and 63.something% for N37. So we now have 7 lovely BD Points to our name and have almost done our Petplan Qualification! It went much better than I expected.
Thank you for reading, please help yourself to cupcakes. Some pictures are below, taken on my phone from some distance so rather blurry I'm afraid!
